Lack of money to spend, robbed a series of gold shops

On December 6, the People's Court of Thua Thien Hue province opened a mobile court in Phu Bai ward, Huong Thuy town to try defendant Ho Phan Nhat Tan (born in 1997), residing in area 1, Thuy Xuan ward, Hue city, for the crime of "Robbery". Tan is the subject who caused many shocking gold shop robberies in the countryside of Hue.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Thua Thien Hue province, defendant Tan had no money to pay debts and spend, so he intended to go to gold shops to rob property.

Tan's method of committing the crime was to pretend to buy gold to prepare for his wedding. After picking up the gold to look at it, Tan used tricks to make the seller careless, then snatched the gold and ran to the motorbike parked outside the shop to escape.

After successfully robbing the gold, Tan brought the gold to sell at gold shops in Hue City to get money to play games, pay off debts and spend it all.

In less than 1 month, from April 8 to 27, 2017, defendant Tan successfully carried out 4 robberies at gold shops in Phu Vang district, Huong Thuy town and Hue city with a total property value of more than 80 million VND.

Defendant Ho Phan Nhat Tan was sentenced to 5 years in prison after many robberies at gold shops.

Specifically, on April 8, Tan appropriated 2 gold bracelets worth more than 10 million VND at Duc Chinh gold shop (Thuan An town, Phu Vang district); on April 17, he appropriated 1 gold bracelet and 1 gold necklace worth 14 million VND at Thanh Tin gold shop (Huynh Thuc Khang street, Hue city); on April 22, he appropriated 2 gold bracelets worth nearly 21 million VND at Dinh Loi gold shop (Thuan An town, Phu Vang district), owner of Dinh Loi gold shop; on April 27, he appropriated 2 gold rings worth more than 34 million VND at Thuan Thao gold shop (Huong Thuy town).

In addition, on April 26 and 27, 2017, Tan also went to 4 gold shops in Hue City, Huong Thuy Town and Phu Loc District with the same method. However, the gold shop owners were alert and asked Tan to pay in advance, so the defendant was not able to commit the crime.

It is known that the defendant Tan passed the entrance exam to a university, but due to his addiction to gambling, which led to debt, the defendant was prosecuted twice. On May 17, 2017, Tan was prosecuted by the Investigation Police Agency of Dien Ban District Police, Quang Nam Province for the crime of "Robbery". On August 2, 2017, he was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the People's Court of Hue City for the crime of "Theft of property".

The trial panel found that the defendant Tan's actions were dangerous to society, repeated many times, causing serious consequences. At the end of the trial, the court sentenced the defendant Tan to 5 years in prison.
