Vitamin D deficiency causes heart problems
Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure.
Low vitamin D levels have long been linked to heart problems. Now, a team of researchers at the Intermountain Heart Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, led by Dr. Brent Muhlestein, says they have determined that vitamin D levels below 15 nanograms (ng) / ml of blood increase the risk of stroke and heart attack in patients.

Vitamin D deficiency causes heart problems - 1Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure |
According to Medical News Today, the results of the study were announced at the American Heart Association's scientific conference in Florida, based on data from 230,000 patients followed for 3 consecutive years.
These patients were divided into four groups based on their blood vitamin levels including below 15 ng/ml, 15-29 ng/ml, 29-44 ng/ml and above 45/ml.
Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure.
They found that patients with blood vitamin levels below 15 ng/ml had a 35% higher risk of cardiovascular events than patients in the other three groups.
Researchers say patients with blood levels of 15 ng/ml or more of the vitamin can rest assured about their hearts and do not need to take additional vitamin D supplements.
With just a simple blood test, we can determine the vitamin D content in the blood and need to take vitamin D supplements if the test results show that the vitamin D content is below 15 ng/ml of blood.
Vitamin D is synthesized naturally when the body is exposed to sunlight. In addition, vitamin D is also found in fish, egg yolks and some dairy products.
