Vitamin D deficiency causes heart problems
Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure.
Low vitamin D levels have long been linked to heart problems. Recently, a team of researchers at the Intermountain Heart Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, led by Dr. Brent Muhlestein, said they had determined that vitamin D levels below 15 nanograms (ng) / ml of blood will increase the risk of stroke and heart failure for patients.

Vitamin D deficiency causes heart problems - 1Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure and kidney failure |
According to Medical News Today, the results of the above research were announced at the scientific conference of the American Heart Association in Florida, based on data of 230,000 patients monitored for 3 consecutive years.
These patients were divided into four groups based on their blood vitamin levels including below 15 ng/ml, 15-29 ng/ml, 29-44 ng/ml and above 45/ml.
Researchers monitored their serious heart events including coronary artery disease, heart attack, stroke, heart failure, and kidney failure.
They found that patients with blood vitamin levels below 15 ng/ml had a 35% higher risk of cardiovascular events than patients in the other three groups.
Researchers say patients with blood levels of 15 ng/ml or higher can rest assured about their hearts and do not need to take additional vitamin D supplements.
With just a simple blood test, we can determine the vitamin D content in the blood and need to take vitamin D supplements if the test results show that the vitamin D content is below 15 ng/ml of blood.
Vitamin D is synthesized naturally when the body is exposed to sunlight. In addition, vitamin D is also found in fish, egg yolks and some dairy products.
