On December 30, attending the opening ceremony of three key transport projects in Quang Ninh, namely Van Don International Airport, Ha Long International Cruise Port and Ha Long-Van Don Expressway, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed this as a breakthrough and synchronous development in transport in Quang Ninh province.

Synchronization, breakthrough in traffic

Pressing the ribbon-cutting button to inaugurate Van Don International Airport, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc assessed this as a milestone in the breakthrough development and synchronization of the transportation system of Quang Ninh province and the region. The successful implementation of public-private partnership (PPP) projects in Quang Ninh shows that the policy of socializing investment in infrastructure works and mobilizing social resources is completely correct. "Not every locality can do this, but Quang Ninh has applied and developed important and meaningful works, even first-time works such as the airport," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister said that with airports and highways, it is necessary to develop accompanying services well so that these projects can be effective. Transportation, finance, tourism, and hotel services in the area are very important to attract more tourists. The Prime Minister requested Quang Ninh province, investors, and relevant agencies to operate these projects to ensure safety, especially the airport.

The Prime Minister hopes that Quang Ninh will continue to complete auxiliary works connecting the development of the transport system to promote the expressway system, waterway system, road system, and air route. According to the Prime Minister, Quang Ninh must continue to plan the best development to have connecting systems to promote the effectiveness of these three works.

The leaders of Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee assessed that the Van Don International Airport and the Ha Long-Van Don Expressway, when put into operation, will create opportunities for Van Don to develop strongly. This traffic connection will create favorable conditions for tourists to fly to Van Don and easily travel to Ha Long Bay and neighboring provinces and cities.

Along with that, the commercial operation of Ha Long international passenger port will also be a lever to attract luxury international tourists by sea to Ha Long, creating momentum for tourism to break through.

Many airlines open flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Van Don

Van Don International Airport (Doan Ket Commune, Van Don District) is the first airport invested by the private sector under the BOT model. This is a level 4E airport and a level II military airport, with a 3.6 km long, 45 m wide runway that can accommodate the most modern aircraft. The runway is equipped with an ILS Cat II flight guidance system, ensuring safe landing guidance for aircraft even in adverse weather conditions.

Van Don International Airport Terminal has an area of nearly 27,000 m2, design two separate arrival and departure elevations; in phase 1 the capacity can reach 2.5 million passengers/year. Next to it is the aircraft parking lot in phase 1 to 2020 with the capacity to accommodate seven aircraft, in phase 2 to 2030 with the capacity to accommodate 15 aircraft.

Van Don International Airport welcomed the official commercial flight from Ho Chi Minh City by Vietnam Airlines on December 30. From January 20, 2019, VietJet Air will also open the Tan Son Nhat-Van Don route on even days of the week. It is expected that Van Don International Airport will have nine routes with the capacity to receive 7,000 passengers/day.

The Ha Long International Cruise Port (Bai Chay, Ha Long City) includes a wharf over 400 m long with six anchorages, a bridge, a marina, a passenger terminal, and a public house. This cruise port is capable of receiving ships with a maximum capacity of up to 225,000 GR with a total capacity of up to 8,400 people, serving two ships at the same time. This project is expected to contribute to the rapid growth of international tourists to Quang Ninh by sea.

Hanoi-Van Don: From 5:00 to 2:30

The third traffic project is the Ha Long-Van Don expressway, nearly 60 km long, with a design speed of 100 km/h, four lanes, two emergency lanes, helping to shorten the travel time from Ha Long to Van Don from 90 minutes to about 50 minutes. This expressway connects with the Ha Long-Hai Phong expressway and the Hanoi-Hai Phong expressway, creating a smooth traffic route from Hanoi to Van Don, shortening the travel time from the previous five hours to two hours and 30 minutes.

All three key transport projects are invested by Sun Group Corporation. Of which, Van Don International Airport has a total investment of more than 7,400 billion VND, Ha Long International Cruise Port has an investment of more than 1,000 billion VND and Ha Long-Van Don Expressway has a total investment of nearly 12,000 billion VND.
