Prime Minister requests strict punishment for speculation and hoarding of goods during Tet

The Government leader requested ministries and branches to strictly implement the directive not to congratulate or give gifts to leaders; localities should not return to Hanoi to congratulate the Government, ministries and branches.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has just signed and issued a Directive on strengthening management and operation to stabilize market prices and ensure social order and safety during the 2017 Lunar New Year.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to coordinate with ministries, branches and localities to closely monitor the market supply and demand and goods developments at the end of the year. At the same time, he directed to strengthen inspection and prevent the trade and transportation of smuggled and counterfeit goods that tend to increase at the end of the year and Tet such as explosives, firecrackers, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.

"Acts of investment and hoarding of goods to increase prices for illegal profits will be strictly handled," the Prime Minister's directive stated. The Ministry of Finance will proactively monitor and promptly take measures to strictly handle violations of price laws.

The Prime Minister requested to provide enough essential goods to serve people's needs at the end of the year and during the 2017 Lunar New Year.

Regarding the State Bank, the Prime Minister requested that credit institutions ensure that the automatic teller machine (ATM) system operates safely and smoothly, and continue to implement measures to manage and use small denominations and coins reasonably and economically during Tet.

The Directive also clearly states that agencies in the State administrative system at all levels thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the Prime Minister's direction not to congratulate or give gifts to leaders, and request localities not to return to Hanoi to congratulate the Government, ministries and branches on Tet.

Immediately after the Tet holiday, agencies, organizations and units urgently focus on work, not allowing delays to affect production and business activities.
