Ban Ve Hydropower Plant increases discharge flow to serve drought prevention for spring crop production
(Baonghean.vn) - Based on the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir has adjusted the water discharge level downstream from 50 m3/s to 160 m3/s to raise the water level of Lam River, ensuring that pumping stations can pump water into the fields, serving drought prevention and production for the 2023 Spring crop.
Recently, due to the low water level of Lam River, Do Luong and Thanh Chuong districts have experienced a serious shortage of water for production. Of which, about 1,200 hectares of spring rice are entering the growth and tillering period and are at risk of being completely lost if there is not enough timely irrigation water.

According to Mr. Nguyen Truong Thanh - Head of Nghe An Irrigation Sub-Department, in that situation, the Provincial People's Committee has directed companies, including: Ban Ve Hydropower Company, Khe Bo Hydropower Company, Chi Khe Hydropower Company to increase the water discharge flow to the downstream, raise the water level of Lam River for pumping stations to operate. On that basis, hydropower plants also implement reservoir operation plans, increase water discharge flow.

Particularly from March 17-23, Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir adjusted the water discharge level downstream from 50 m3/s up to 160 m3/s, to raise the water level of Lam River, ensuring that pumping stations can pump water into the fields, serving drought prevention and production for the 2023 Spring crop.

Immediately after the water was available, localities in Do Luong and Thanh Chuong directed irrigation teams to coordinate with villages, hamlets and people to organize water reception and pumping, prioritizing each area according to the principle of "far first, near later". In rice areas that had water, localities instructed people to focus on fertilizing, and at the same time continue to check and build embankments to minimize water loss.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, a resident of Dai Dong commune, Thanh Chuong district, said: "We are as happy as "a drought meets a shower of rain", now the Lam River has risen, water is pumped into the fields to fight the drought. We are very excited, hoping that the rice and crops will grow well."
It is known that the adjustment of the reservoir operation plan to ensure that pumping stations along Lam River can operate, serving drought prevention and production of the 2023 Spring crop, has caused the water level of Ban Ve Hydropower Reservoir to drop very low, only at 183.4 m, nearly 6m lower than the minimum water level prescribed in the inter-reservoir operation process on the Ca River basin, equivalent to a water shortage of over 200 million m3.3This also means that the Company is facing many difficulties in power generation operations.

According toBan Ve Hydropower Company, not only in the past few days, before that, from February 2 to 6, 2023, the Company also adjusted the operating mode of Ban Ve hydropower reservoir to increase the discharge level from 80 m3/s up to 150 m3/s to provide timely water to downstream, ensuring good service for production and spring crop planting.
According to the forecast of the North Central Hydrometeorological Station, there will be no rain in the coming time, the water level of Lam River is tending to decrease. Meanwhile, the water level of the reservoir is very low, causing difficulties for both supplying irrigation water to the downstream and generating electricity during the dry season this year. However, with a sense of responsibility towards the downstream, Ban Ve Hydropower Company will actively coordinate with local authorities to promptly fight drought so that people can feel secure in production.
