(Baonghean.vn) - The widespread hot weather has caused electricity consumption to increase sharply. According to data from the National Power System Control Center, the national electricity load on May 31, 2021 was at a record high with a peak capacity of 41,549 MW.

Currently, the Northern and Central provinces are experiencing very harsh weather conditions with temperatures in many places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius and the heat wave will continue in the coming days. The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that the Son La, Hoa Binh, midlands and the Northern Delta, and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen will experience severe heat, with some places experiencing particularly severe heat. The highest temperatures in the above regions are generally 37-40 degrees Celsius, with some places experiencing over 40 degrees Celsius, such as Phu Yen (Son La), Lac Son (Hoa Binh), Lang (Hanoi), Tinh Gia (Thanh Hoa), Do Luong (Nghe An), Dong Ha (Quang Tri), Ba To (Quang Ngai), etc. Other places in the North will experience heat with the highest temperatures generally ranging from 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some places experiencing over 37 degrees Celsius.

As reported by Vietnam Electricity (EVN), the prolonged hot weather has led to a potential risk of local power grid failures because many outdoor electrical equipment has had to endure high temperatures for a long time, even at night it is very hot; some power lines and transformer stations are overloaded at some times. In addition, in the past few days, the severe heat has also caused a reduction in the capacity of some thermal power plants in the Northern region due to various reasons, in which the main cause is the high temperature of the cooling water.

In addition, the hot weather and very low humidity also increase the risk of forest fires, affecting the safe operation of power transmission lines. Power units in the North have increased their 24/7 response and are urgently working to restore power problems as quickly as possible.

For households, prolonged hot weather also significantly affects the operation and performance of electrical equipment. This leads to the risk of overload, accidents, circuit breakers, and even the risk of fire and explosion will be higher than normal.

With the hot weather continuing in the summer, EVN continues to recommend that agencies, offices, production facilities and people continue to pay attention to using electricity safely, economically and effectively. In addition to using air conditioners properly (set at 26-27 degrees or higher, use in combination with fans), we should also not use high-capacity electrical equipment at the same time (such as air conditioners, electric stoves, etc.) to minimize the risk of local grid overload, ensuring efficient use of electricity for customers, while also limiting the situation of sudden increases in electricity bills due to electricity usage being too high compared to normal. In the current complicated situation of the Covid-19 epidemic, health agencies also recommend limiting the use of air conditioners, instead opening windows and increasing the use of fans to circulate the air.

Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) hopes to always receive the sharing and support of electricity customers in production and business activities so that the Group can continue to improve and meet the increasingly high demands for customer service./.
