On the morning of May 21, the fifth session of the 14th National Assembly solemnly opened. Attending the opening session were General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Tran Dai Quang, and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
Speaking at the opening session, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan said that during this session, National Assembly deputies will focus on discussing many important issues that are meaningful to promoting the country's socio-economic development. The National Assembly will spend nearly two-thirds of the session's time reviewing and approving eight draft laws and resolutions and giving opinions on eight other draft laws.
According to the plan, at this session, the National Assembly will listen to a report summarizing the opinions and recommendations of voters and people; listen to a report on the results of monitoring the settlement of voters' recommendations sent to the previous session; conduct questions and answers; conduct supreme supervision of the implementation of policies and laws on management and use of state capital and assets at enterprises and equitization of state-owned enterprises in the 2011-2016 period; consider and approve Resolutions on the Supervision Program and the establishment of the National Assembly's Thematic Supervision Delegation in 2019,...
Governor-General of Australia pays State visit to Vietnam

At the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang, on the afternoon of May 23, Governor-General of Australia Peter Cosgrove and his wife began a State visit to Vietnam from May 23-26, 2018.
During the visit, Australian Governor-General Peter Cosgrove held talks with President Tran Dai Quang; paid a courtesy visit to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong; met with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
During the meetings, both sides expressed satisfaction with the strong and effective development of the Vietnam-Australia relationship in recent times. The two sides agreed to continue to widely implement activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations from the central to local levels, raising awareness among the people of the two countries, especially among the youth and students, about the Vietnam-Australia relationship.
Orienting the strategic partnership in the coming time, the two sides agreed to further strengthen political trust and strategic trust through increasing the exchange of visits and contacts; improving the effectiveness of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, while promoting newly established cooperation mechanisms and frameworks such as: Economic Partnership, Agricultural Partnership, Innovation Partnership, Foreign Ministerial Meeting...; focusing on promoting friendly exchange activities among all sectors in society.

On May 25, in Hanoi, the "Meet Europe 2018" Conference was held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee, the European Union Delegation and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) to enhance and diversify forms of investment and trade promotion between Europe and Vietnam.
Attending and speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that European partners have become close companions of Vietnam in 30 years of Renovation, development and opening up for integration. The Prime Minister said that the economies of Vietnam and Europe are more complementary than competitive.
Conference delegates all assessed Vietnam as the economy with the most dynamic growth rate in the region and an attractive investment destination for European investors.

Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung has just commented on the proposal of the Ministry of Transport on establishing criteria for setting up toll stations for road use services for business projects in this field.
Specifically, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport to properly implement the Prime Minister's direction in relevant documents; consult with ministries, branches and localities to decide on criteria for setting up toll stations for road use services and issue Circulars according to its authority; ensure compliance with the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the exploitation of traffic works under the BOT form.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Huynh Duc Tho has just submitted a document to the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee on promulgating regulations on implementing policies to develop high-quality human resources in the public sector.
For those sent for training under the Da Nang High-Quality Human Resources Development Project (Project 922), the city will supplement other support costs not specified in the project, to encourage students to strive to study, find scholarships and save money for the city.
To create commitment in contract implementation and compensate for the costs invested by the city, the draft stipulates the content of penalties for contract violations. The parties to the contract have the right to agree on a penalty of no less than 10% of the compensation amount. This penalty is recovered together with the compensation amount.

From July 1, the first 3 bus routes using clean fuel (CNG) will come into operation. The routes are numbered from CNG 01 to CNG 03.
Route 01 runs from My Dinh bus station (Nam Tu Liem) to Son Tay station with 122 trips/day and a frequency of 15-20 minutes/trip. Route 02 runs from Yen Nghia bus station (Ha Dong) through Giai Phong street and the end point of Dang Xa urban area (Gia Lam) with 126 trips/day, a frequency of 15-20 minutes/trip. Route 3, from the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases, branch II to Times City urban area with 138 trips/day, a frequency of 12-15 minutes/trip.
Bao Yen Construction Service Tourism Company Limited - the operator said that the cost of CNG fuel is 10-30% cheaper than conventional gas. The ticket price for a clean bus is the same as that for a regular bus.
Soc Trang invests 1,200 billion to open the way to the shrimp - rice area

On May 23, Soc Trang province started construction of a key road from Soc Trang city to the shrimp-rice growing area. This 25.5 km long project starts from Ward 9 (Soc Trang city), passes through the center of My Xuyen district, reaches Du Tho (Tham Don commune) and ends at the "shrimp hugging rice" area in Gia Hoa 1 commune.
The "shrimp-rice road" in Soc Trang has an investment capital of nearly 1,200 billion VND, from government bonds. The road surface is 7 m wide, has 2 lanes, 10 new bridges, 14 box culverts, 32 round culverts... expected to be completed in 2020.
According to the leaders of Soc Trang province, when put into use, this route will connect with the dike system to prevent saltwater intrusion and the road serving national defense and security, rescuing ships in the coastal area of Tran De district, Soc Trang river port, Nam Song Hau national highway, national highway 1, forming an important domestic and foreign traffic axis and forming economic, trade, tourism and service axes of the province and creating favorable conditions for calling for investment, serving the needs of transporting goods and agricultural products in the key shrimp-rice production areas of My Xuyen, Tran De districts and Vinh Chau town.
4 ward chairmen criticized for letting garbage block sewers

On May 23, the People's Committee of Bien Hoa City (Dong Nai) criticized four chairmen of Ho Nai, Tan Bien, Tan Hoa and Binh Da wards for allowing garbage to clog the drainage system, causing flooding in the area when it rains.
According to Mr. Pham Anh Dung, Chairman of Bien Hoa City People's Committee, the locality has been experiencing heavy rains in recent times. In Ho Nai, Binh Da, Tan Hoa, and Tan Bien wards, rainwater has carried household waste to clog manholes, preventing water from draining and causing localized flooding.
The Bien Hoa City People's Committee has criticized these people for the lax management of the garbage that clogged the sewers. It also requested the chairmen of the four wards to fix the current situation and ensure the environment.
