General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong meets with outstanding students
Recalling the old saying "talent is the vital energy of the nation", General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong advised students to strive to study well but must have good morals.
On the afternoon of November 3, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong met with a delegation of outstanding students of the 2017-2018 school year at the Presidential Palace. The delegation included 55 students who won international and regional Olympic prizes, international science and technology competitions; students who overcame difficulties in studying and training and were given extraordinary awards; and students who did excellent scientific research.
Some of the faces present at the ceremony were: Pham Duc Anh - who won the gold medal twice at the International Chemistry Olympiad, was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal, and is currently a first-year student at Hanoi Medical University; H'Mong ethnic student Ho Thi Chau won the national excellent student award in Geography, and is currently a first-year student at Hanoi Law University; 11A6 student at Trieu Son High School (Thanh Hoa), Ngo Minh Hieu, who has carried his disabled friend to school for many years.g.

Attending the meeting, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha reported on some outstanding results of the sector last year. According to the World Bank's assessment, the capacity of 15-year-old students in Vietnam - a country with a low average income, but has results exceeding the average of students in the OECD group of developed economies. The quality of university education has been recognized by the world through quality assessment and international university rankings. For the first time, Vietnam has two national universities in the top 1,000 universities in the world and seven universities ranked in the top 500 universities in Asia.
Minister Nha emphasized the achievements of Vietnamese students in participating in regional and international Olympic competitions over the past 5 years, especially in 2018 when all participating students won prizes, with 13 gold medals. The International Biology Olympiad delegation had the highest results ever with 3/4 students winning gold medals and one silver medal. Nguyen Phuong Thao (grade 12, High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) had the highest score in the competition and was honored as the Winner.
Expressing his joy at the achievements of students and the education sector, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong assessed that although society still criticizes and points out many limitations, overall, Vietnam's education system has achieved proud results.
ReminderTalents are the vital energy of a nation. If the vital energy is strong, the country will be strong. If the vital energy is weak, the country will be weak.The General Secretary and President reminded students that they have to strive to study well but also have good morals to become useful people for society. "We keep saying that we must provide comprehensive education, which boils down to morality and talent. Morality must be the root, but that does not mean underestimating talent. Without talent, how can we build the country, how can we call it the national spirit?", Mr. Trong said.
Proposing the Ministry of Education to pay attention to moral education and improving learners' physical strength, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong hopes that the education sector will continue to effectively implement Resolution No. 29 on fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training, meeting the needs and orientations of society and international integration.
