In 1931, Le Hong Phong was secretly sent back to the country by the Communist International to lead the revolutionary movement. However, under the repression of the French colonialists and their henchmen, the revolutionary bases were destroyed by the enemy, hundreds and thousands of revolutionary cadres were arrested and imprisoned. Knowing that Le Hong Phong was an important leader of the Party, the French colonialists used all kinds of brutal torture methods to force him to reveal the Party organization, but the enemy was powerless against the spirit and iron will of the steadfast communist soldier. In the end, they sentenced Le Hong Phong to 5 years in prison, 10 years of house arrest and exiled him to the hell on earth of Con Dao.
At noon on September 6, 1942, in the isolated holding area of Banh II, Con Dao prison, comrade Le Hong Phong gradually became exhausted and heroically sacrificed himself. Before leaving, he instructed: "Please tell the Party that, until the last moment, Le Hong Phong still believed wholeheartedly in the glorious victory of the revolution."
