The example of a staunch communist, indomitable

In the history of Vietnam's revolution, Nghe An is a land rich in patriotic traditions, marked by many heroic struggles and steadfast, indomitable names. Among them, General Secretary Le Hong Phong is a typical example, an outstanding leader of the Party, leaving a deep mark in the Vietnamese revolutionary cause.

Comrade Le Hong Phong was born on September 6, 1902 in Dong Thon village, Thong Lang commune, Hung Nguyen district, now Hung Nguyen Nam commune. His youth was associated with the years of wandering to find a way to save the country, after being enlightened by leader Nguyen Ai Quoc, approaching the revolutionary ideal according to the Marxist-Leninist doctrine.

After many years of training and studying in China and the Soviet Union (1924 - 1931), in November 1931, Le Hong Phong returned home, beginning a period of vibrant revolutionary activities.

Comrade Le Hong Phong's great contribution was leading the restoration and development of the Party organization and the revolutionary movement, maintaining the fighting will of Party members, the fighting spirit of the people, and maintaining the belief in the inevitable victory of the revolution during the difficult and challenging period of decline after the Nghe Tinh Soviet climax.

Comrade Le Hong Phong participated in drafting the Party's Action Program, a genuine Leninist document, approved by the Secretariat of the Communist International; made efforts to open political training classes, establish communist cells, establish Party Executive Committees in a number of provinces and then establish an external Command Committee... The external Command Committee acted as the Party's provisional Central Committee, directing the work of restoring Party bases, planning and communicating the Party's policies and guidelines nationwide.

As head of the External Command and later General Secretary of the Party (1935 - 1936), comrade Le Hong Phong devoted his intelligence and enthusiasm to the Party and the Vietnamese revolution in many aspects, especially steadfastly pursuing the chosen revolutionary goals and path, developing theory and strengthening the organization, linking the Vietnamese revolution with the Communist International.

To continue to develop the Vietnamese revolution in an upward direction, both solving domestic problems well and keeping up with the trend of the times, comrade Le Hong Phong actively participated in the international communist and workers' movement, contributing to bringing the voice of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement to the world; at the same time, persistently fighting for the Communist International to pay attention, support and create conditions for the development of the Vietnamese revolutionary movement.

In 1939, comrade Le Hong Phong was arrested and sentenced to prison by the French colonialists. In the harsh prison conditions in Con Dao, Le Hong Phong still maintained the spirit of a communist, setting a shining example of steadfastness. Before his death (in 1942), Le Hong Phong left a touching message: "Please tell the Party that, until the last moment, Le Hong Phong still believed wholeheartedly in the glorious victory of the revolution."

At the age of 40 and with 18 years of revolutionary activities, comrade Le Hong Phong left behind a shining example of bravery, steadfast will, and sacrifice for the independence and freedom of the nation.

President Ho Chi Minh once affirmed: “Our comrades such as comrade Tran Phu, comrade Ngo Gia Tu, comrade Le Hong Phong, comrade Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, comrade Ha Huy Tap, comrade Nguyen Van Cu, comrade Hoang Van Thu… have put the interests of the Party, of the revolution, of the nation above all, above all… Those comrades have devoted their blood and bones to watering the revolutionary tree, so the revolutionary tree has blossomed and borne good fruit as it does today.”

Proud to continue writing new developments

Over the years, today Hung Nguyen Nam commune is still the land bearing the mark of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of 1930 - 1931. The fierce struggles, especially the demonstration on September 12, 1930, became a historical milestone, contributing to affirming the indomitable will of the people of Nghe An.

That tradition is the foundation for cadres, party members and people here to foster the spirit of solidarity, overcome difficulties, follow in the footsteps of their ancestors, and constantly strive to build a rich and strong homeland.

Hong Phong Hamlet, the hometown of General Secretary Le Hong Phong, now has a new look when 100% of village roads and alleys have been expanded with concrete, covered with shady trees, and electricity is everywhere.

Cultural houses, sports grounds, and entertainment areas are invested synchronously, contributing to improving people's spiritual and physical life.

People are clearly aware of their role as owners, voluntarily contributing their efforts and money to build new rural areas. Just counting the construction of new rural areas in recent years, in addition to donating land, cutting down trees and demolishing constructions, contributing labor days, many households have contributed 50-60 million VND, and even the smallest households have contributed more than 10 million VND.

The special thing about Hong Phong hamlet, according to comrade Chau Van Binh - Secretary of the hamlet Party Cell, is that the people's sense of self-reliance and self-improvement has been raised, they are proactive, creative, and apply science and technology to production to increase economic value per unit area; at the same time, they are proactive in finding jobs, creating economic income for themselves, their families and society. There are currently no poor households in the hamlet; well-off and rich households account for about 70%.

Not only Hong Phong hamlet, the general appearance of Hung Nguyen Nam commune is changing every day. After the merger (July 2025), the new commune of Hung Nguyen Nam was formed from 4 communes that all met the new rural standards; of which, 1 commune met the model standard, 2 communes met the advanced standard. This is an important foundation for Hung Nguyen Nam to make a breakthrough in the coming period.

The bright spot in Hung Nguyen Nam commune, according to comrade Le Pham Hung - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Commune People's Council, is the infrastructure of transportation, irrigation, schools, healthcare, cultural and sports facilities that have been invested in quite synchronously, associated with the beautification and construction of a new rural face that is "bright, green, clean, beautiful" and more civilized and modern; the Party's will and the people's hearts are part of the efforts to build the homeland into a livable countryside.

People have boldly changed their production mindset towards increasing value with many high-tech agricultural models being implemented; forming many large fields for commercial rice production; converting small-scale livestock farming into biosafety concentrated farms...; promoting the development of small-scale industry, services - trade, craft villages, participating in domestic and foreign labor markets.

Promoting the revolutionary tradition and pride in being the hometown of General Secretary Le Hong Phong, the Party Committee and people of Hung Nguyen Nam commune set clear goals for the 2025 - 2030 term: Strive to achieve advanced new rural standards by 2028 and model new rural standards by 2029.

This is not only the goal of bringing the locality to comprehensive and sustainable development, but also a promise and deep gratitude to the outstanding son of the homeland - General Secretary Le Hong Phong.
