Responding to voters' opinions on fighting corruption and negativity, the General Secretary said that this is an issue that people always bring up with delegates before each National Assembly session. "The authorities have finished this job, but then another case comes up. There are cases that need to be resolved urgently and decisively, but there are also cases that need to be resolved in a way that makes people convinced," he said.
According to the General Secretary, in discipline, at first, whoever is punished "cried injustice and was punished severely", while the people thought "it was still light". But in the end, the disciplined person was often convinced, and some even "thanked the comrades for disciplining me".
The Party leader stated that we must calmly consider all aspects to find the cause. When dealing with a problem, we must "look to the future and see the direction of development, not strike a blow that kills people, not crush them so that they cannot raise their heads."
Central personnel "without lobbying or lobbying"
Regarding the disciplinary action against the Secretary and Chairman of Da Nang, the General Secretary said: "We cannot ignore the punishment just because APEC is being held in this locality, but after the punishment, we must stabilize the situation for development. In particular, we must prepare well to welcome guests because the Presidents of many countries such as the US, Russia, India... have promised to attend."
He admitted that the fight against corruption still has many difficulties and hardships, but the fight is to make the situation better, not worse; how to enlighten officials, people not to follow in their footsteps, recover assets from corruption...
"We must make the furnace hotter, everyone participates, now that there is progress, and the people support us, we must continue because losing the people's trust means losing everything. Disciplinary action against officials who have committed violations, before we said we would hit them from the shoulders down, but now we hit them more from the head," the General Secretary emphasized, saying that the provinces "must further promote this, otherwise they will lose prestige."
Referring to the recent Central Conference electing two additional personnel to the Secretariat, he affirmed that the Central Committee had reached a high level of consensus and "there was no lobbying or lobbying".
"Not only firewood but also iron and steel melt"
At the beginning of the meeting, reviewing recent prominent incidents related to Trinh Xuan Thanh, Nguyen Xuan Son, Ha Van Tham..., voter Tran Viet Hoan (Vinh Phuc ward) said, "The Party leader lit the fire to make the furnace burn, people will join in putting in fresh and dry wood".
According to him, people not only expect the government to discipline or criminally prosecute those who commit violations, but also to recover assets acquired through corruption, "a series of cases, each worth thousands of billions, must arrest those involved and return them, only then will the fight against corruption be completely victorious".
Mr. Hoan also commented that the fact that many officials and party members, including high-ranking officials, are involved in violations shows that discipline and the law are not strict, and there are many other manifestations such as: The reduction of organizational units and staffing levels has made the apparatus increasingly bloated; the policy of rotating officials for training has been exploited to bring in some people who do not meet the criteria; the declaration of assets is still a formality...
"The superiors told us to look for talented people, not relatives, but many places still promote relatives to leadership and state management positions; the request to close forests still causes deforestation in many localities...", Mr. Hoan commented.
Voter Nguyen Van Dung (Kim Ma ward) said: "We want the furnace to be even hotter, so that not only fresh wood but also iron and steel will melt."
Referring to Mr. Pham The Dung - former Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, when being pointed out for violations, said "I'm retired, deal with it as you please", voter Le Thanh Huyen commented that this shows that the official does not value honor and the authorities need to handle it seriously, "don't let the idea of retirement be enough, landing safely".
Disciplining the Secretary of Da Nang is a painful lesson
Lieutenant General Nguyen Quoc Thuoc said that the country's situation has recently improved, but many people are worried about a number of socio-economic issues and demand more action from leaders at all levels.
"Many people ask me how I feel about the series of high-ranking officials in office and retired being disciplined. I say I am both heartbroken and happy. For example, with Mr. Xuan Anh - Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee, a young official who was trusted with such an important responsibility was disciplined, clearly a painful lesson. But I am glad that the Party has not been lenient when discovering violations and shortcomings of officials," General Thuoc said.

General Thuoc emphasized that in the past, in the cases related to Mr. Tran Van Truyen - former Inspector General of the Government, Vu Huy Hoang (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vo Kim Cu (Ha Tinh) ..., all were dealing with violations in the past, but recently, the authorities have handled many cases that occurred in the present, during this term. "That makes us confident, because we understand that to get such results is a determined struggle through many stages," General Thuoc said.
However, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thuoc expressed dissatisfaction, because "The central government is fighting hard but many localities have not moved. For example, the inspection of the mansion of the family of the Director of the Department of Natural Resources of Yen Bai is clear as day but the authorities are too slow, it has been months and still has not been handled."
"The flag against negativity is being raised, the Central Government has taken action and localities need to follow suit," he emphasized.
According to voter Truong Duc Ngai (Cong Vi ward), the role and responsibility of the Central Inspection Committee has been well demonstrated, but we must find a way to promote the role of the Inspection Committee at all levels. "If the grassroots also work effectively like the Central, the work of preventing corruption, waste and negativity will be more effective and gain more trust from the people," said Mr. Ngai.
