After Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had sent an invitation, the White House said on July 27 that US President Donald Trump is ready to visit Moscow once he receives an official invitation.
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement: "President Trump looks forward to welcoming President Putin to Washington after the new year (early 2019), and he is also ready to visit Moscow as soon as he receives a formal invitation."
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had invited his US counterpart Donald Trump to Moscow, emphasizing that both leaders were ready for a second summit.
Hydroelectric dam in Laos collapsed due to poor construction quality

The website of the Lao National News Agency (KPL) on July 27 quoted the statement of Lao Minister of Energy and Mines, Mr. Khammani Inthilath, saying that the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy hydroelectric dam collapsed due to poor quality assurance.
Minister Inthilath confirmed that the reason dam D of the Xe Pian-Xe Namnoy hydropower dam broke on the evening of July 23 was due to poor construction quality.
He said that along with troubleshooting and quickly stabilizing the lives of the affected people, Lao authorities are also continuing to investigate the dam collapse. Minister Inthilath informed that according to the contract, the parties involved must compensate for all damages.
North Korea confirms new army chief of staff

North Korea's state media KCNA reported that General Ri Yong-gil, as chief of the general staff of the army, accompanied leader Kim Jong-un to visit the martyrs' cemetery to mark the 65th anniversary of the end of the 1950-1953 war. This is the first time Pyongyang has confirmed that Mr. Ri holds this position since 2016, according toReuters.
Mr. Ri was a general and chief of the general staff of the North Korean army from 2013 to 2016, before being demoted to the position of deputy chief of the general staff for unknown reasons.
In February 2016, South Korea's Yonhap news agency, citing information from North Korean defectors, said that Mr. Ri was executed for "factionalism, abuse of power and corruption."
However, a May 2016 KCNA article published a photo of Ri Yong-gil still alive, and said he was a member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea.
Pentagon creates list of software not to be purchased from China and Russia

The Saudi-led coalition has launched heavy air strikes on Hodeidah, Yemen's main port city, in an apparent move to resume military operations in the Red Sea city after the Iran-backed Houthi movement attacked two Saudi oil tankers, Reuters reported.
Residents in the area said coalition warplanes began bombing after midnight, hitting a military police barracks in the city center, a plastics factory in the north of the city, and the Zubaid and Al-Tahita districts in the south.
