'Heart of Nghe An' in Hanoi 'rescues' cucumbers for Nghe An farmers
(Baonghean.vn) - With the desire to help cucumber farmers in their hometown who are facing a slump in sales, dozens of volunteers from the charity group "Nghe An Heart" in Hanoi have returned to Dien Chau (Nghe An) to "rescue" cucumbers.
This year, the entire Dien Chau district planted about 30 hectares of cucumbers, concentrated in the communes of Dien Loc, Dien An, Dien Hoang... From the end of April until now, people in the district have focused on harvesting, the average yield reached 1.5 - 2 tons/sao, higher than last year.
However, the current purchase price is too low, traders are forcing the price down to only 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg. Harvesting is not profitable, many farmers have to pile up melons in the field waiting for traders to come buy.

Sharing the difficulties that Dien Chau farmers are facing, the volunteer team "Nghe An Heart" in Hanoi has stepped in to buy and sell the melons for the people. Thanks to that, many trucks carrying tons of melons have continuously rushed to Hanoi with the hope of selling them soon, quickly recovering the capital for the farmers.
On the morning of May 14, trucks loaded with cucumbers arrived in Hanoi. Dozens of volunteers arrived early to unload the cucumbers, divide them, and deliver them to sales points throughout the city.
Mr. Vu Van Nam - Representative of the volunteer group in Hanoi said: "Our volunteer group are all children of Nghe An, studying and working in Hanoi, we decided to rent a car to go to the fields to buy cucumbers for the people. In the countryside, traders buy cheaply for 1,000 - 1,500 VND/kg, but the volunteer group bought at 4,000 VND/kg. After being transported to Hanoi, the cucumbers are sold at 8,000 - 10,000 VND/kg to cover the capital and transportation costs."
Volunteer teams also quickly appeared on the sidewalks of Minh Khai Street - Hai Ba Trung District and Cau Dien Street - Tu Liem District (Hanoi) to "rescue" cucumbers. Most of the cucumbers are sold in crowded places, so they received enthusiastic support from many people and students.

Although cucumbers may be more expensive than other types of melons sold at wholesale markets, this activity is aimed at helping farmers who are in a difficult situation, so many people happily buy them without bargaining. Many customers even buy in large quantities, and the melons are quickly "rescued".
Ms. Lai Thi Thu (52 years old, Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi) shared, understanding the situation of farmers, the meaningful participation of volunteers, so I stopped to buy a part to support and help farmers in difficult times, I feel happy.
It is known that, in addition to the volunteer group "Nghe An Heart", many businesses and individuals have called for and purchased cucumbers to support Dien Chau farmers. However, the people are still in a very difficult situation when the amount of cucumbers of nearly 240 households is still very large. Therefore, at this time, the people still need help.
