On the morning of June 3, at the Presidential Palace, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Chairman of the National Defense and Security Council, Commander-in-Chief of the People's Armed Forces, chaired the ceremony to hand over the decision to appoint Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army to Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, member of the Party Central Committee, member of the Central Military Commission, Deputy Minister of National Defense.

In his congratulatory speech and assignment of tasks to Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized that Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Tan Cuong is a cadre with good political qualities and ethics, who has received basic training, training, and challenges through many working positions.
