Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine (Ministry of Health) Tran Dac Phu confirmed that children can be vaccinated with Quinvaxem vaccine for free in the expanded immunization program if they have not received enough doses of the 5-in-1 combination vaccine according to the vaccination schedule.

It is important to note that mothers need to bring their child's vaccination card or book so that medical staff know what vaccines their child has received and can prescribe the correct vaccinations for their child.

Children do not have to start over when switching to Quinvaxem vaccine.

The Department of Preventive Medicine clearly states the vaccination schedule for 3 doses of the 5-in-1 combination vaccine (Quinvaxem) to prevent diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and pneumonia/meningitis caused by Hib bacteria at 2, 3 and 4 months of age.

If your child has had 1 or 2 doses of vaccine 4-5 months ago, they should be vaccinated as soon as possible without having to start over from the first dose. Note that the minimum interval between doses is 4 weeks (1 month).

To ensure safe vaccination, medical staff need to follow the correct vaccination procedure, practice safe vaccination, and especially provide full screening and consultation before vaccination.

Parents also need to know what to do and coordinate with medical staff when taking their children for vaccination, and know how to care for and monitor children after vaccination.

Specifically, proactively inform medical staff about your child's health status such as illness, fever, or history of allergies or strong reactions to previous vaccinations such as high fever, prolonged crying, widespread pain and swelling at the injection site or any other abnormalities.

Families should bring their children to the vaccination site at the announced time and location to ensure that the vaccination site is not too crowded and that medical staff can conveniently perform safe vaccinations.

Have your child stay for 30 minutes at the vaccination site for observation. Pay attention to monitoring and caring for your child for the first 1-2 days after vaccination.

Parents need to take care of their children, monitor their health to detect early signs of abnormalities such as screaming, cyanosis, difficulty breathing, poor feeding, lethargy, etc. and take the child immediately to a medical facility for timely treatment.

Timely treatment of post-injection reactions

Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Duong Thi Hong said that in fact, vaccines are one of the biological products that are most strictly tested for safety. However, mothers should still note that vaccines, like drugs, no vaccine is absolutely safe.

Vaccination staff at all levels are trained in vaccination safety and initial treatment of post-vaccination reactions. 100% of commune health stations have available shock treatment drugs.

In case of immediate reaction at the time of vaccination, the child needs to be treated at the nearest medical facility.

The most important thing is that mothers need to let their children stay at the health station for 30 minutes after the injection so that medical staff can monitor their health status, allergies, hypersensitivity reactions, shock, etc.

Specifically, children should be taken immediately to the hospital or medical facilities if they show unusual signs after vaccination such as rash, high fever (>39°C), convulsions, prolonged crying, difficulty breathing, cyanosis, lethargy, drowsiness, poor feeding, refusal to feed... or when the normal reaction lasts more than 1 day.

If parents are not confident about their child's reaction after vaccination, they can go directly to a medical professional for advice on how to monitor and care for the child.

Severe reactions can be overcome if detected and treated promptly. Mothers need to pay close attention to their children's health after vaccination, continuously monitoring for at least 24 hours after vaccination…/.
