In 1 day, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital performed 2 triplet surgeries 'mother and baby safe'
(Baonghean.vn) - After nearly a week of undergoing triplet cesarean section, two mothers, Phan Thi Tham (31 years old, Duc Tho town, Ha Tinh province) and Nguyen Thi Bao Yen (Tan Ky district, Nghe An province) were both discharged from the hospital. The six baby girls of the two mothers are all healthy and developing well.
On August 2, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital successfully performed cesarean section for two pregnant women, Phan Thi Tham and Nguyen Thi Bao Yen, who were naturally carrying triplets. The six baby girls were born amid great joy for the doctors, nurses and families.
According to the two mothers: When they found out they were pregnant with triplets, both of them were very worried. Therefore, both of them strictly followed the schedule of regular pregnancy check-ups; carefully researched and studied medical facilities in and outside the province to choose where to give birth to the babies.

In June 2023, at 32 weeks of pregnancy, both pregnant women Phan Thi Tham and Nguyen Thi Bao Yen went to Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital for examination. The examination results showed many signs of threatened premature birth. Therefore, both pregnant women were hospitalized for prenatal care.
On August 2, pregnant woman Phan Thi Tham reached 36 weeks of pregnancy and pregnant woman Nguyen Thi Bao Yen reached 36 weeks and 2 days. Based on the health prognosis of the 2 pregnant women and 6 babies, doctors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital decided to perform a cesarean section.
From 9:55 to 9:58 am on August 2, the three baby girls born to Nguyen Thi Bao Yen, weighed 2.1 kg, 2.2 kg and 2.2 kg respectively. In the afternoon of the same day, the pregnant woman Phan Thi Tham also went into surgery. The three baby girls, weighing 1.5 kg, 1.7 kg and 2.0 kg, were welcomed into the world by doctors at 2:20 to 2:23 pm.

Immediately after birth, the three babies of the mother Phan Thi Tham were transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to be placed on a warming bed to stabilize their body temperature, receive nutritional care and be closely monitored. The three babies of the mother Nguyen Thi Bao Yen were transferred to the Neonatal Unit and were soon given the Kangaroo Care method for premature babies with the support of their families, helping the babies stabilize their body temperature, breathing rate, heart rate, and milk production, so that they could be discharged home soon.
It is known that the rate of natural triplet pregnancies is very rare, about 1/8,000 cases. Multiple pregnancies often have many potential risks such as threatened premature birth, placental abnormalities, slow fetal growth and especially preeclampsia, threatening the health and life of both mother and baby.
Therefore, when his wife gave birth safely and all three children were born healthy, Mr. Do - the husband of the pregnant woman Phan Thi Tham emotionally shared: "My husband and I moved from Ha Tinh to Vinh city to give birth, that was a wise decision. Having triplets, we realized the hardships, fatigue, and anxiety of pregnancy, so we are so happy when our three children were born healthy."

During the arduous and difficult journey to welcome their beloved child, Ms. Tham and Ms. Yen's family chose Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital as the place to place their trust. With dedication and solid expertise, along with the close coordination of the two Obstetrics and Pediatrics departments, the doctors and nurses have always been close, caring for and accompanying the two mothers to safely give birth on this journey.
In the coming time, the 6 children of the 2 mothers will be screened for congenital diseases such as congenital heart disease, congenital hearing loss, G6PD deficiency, hypothyroidism and congenital adrenal hyperplasia... When discharged from the hospital, the children will be scheduled for follow-up visits according to the hospital's schedule.
