On average, Vietnamese people spend 20 million on one trip abroad.
A newly released report by Visa shows that on average, each Vietnamese person spent 880 USD on their most recent overseas trip.
According to a survey on global travel trends conducted on more than 15,000 people in 27 countries around the world, on average each Vietnamese person spent 880 USD (about 20 million VND) on their most recent overseas trip.
It is predicted that in the next two years, Vietnamese people will tend to travel more and spend more.Each tourist is expected to spend about $1,100 on their next trip. Along with that, tOn average, each Vietnamese tourist will travel abroad 5 times in the next 2 years. This number has increased compared to the past 2 years (3.5 trips).
74% of travelers use credit or debit cards for pre-trip spending. While many use cards to make purchases at their destination, most travelers still prefer to carry cash in foreign currency.

Among the countries surveyed, Vietnamese people have the shortest travel itineraries with 74% of trips lasting 4 nights or less, much shorter than the average in Asia Pacific (7 nights). They choose destinations with an average travel time of 4.5 hours.
Thailand, South Korea, Japan and Singapore are the most popular destinations for Vietnamese tourists. Regional trips are currently the most popular, with 91% of travelers having visited an Asian destination in the past two years. These countries will continue to hold their positions over the next two years, with the US joining the Top 5.
“As Vietnam’s economy grows with the emergence of a growing middle class and affluent population, more people will be interested in international travel. This has been proven in the survey results: people travel more and spend more on travel,” said Sean Preston, Visa Country Manager for Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
Overall, the report found that tourists around the world are taking shorter, more frequent trips, and the risk of losing or having their cash stolen at their destination remains a constant concern.
Of the five main motivations for travel, “enjoyment” travelers often travel to bond with friends and family or simply enjoy time alone. “Discovery” travelers tend to experience more new cultures and visit more interesting destinations. Six in ten international travelers (63%) say they travel for both of these reasons. The corresponding rate in Vietnam is 72%, or 7 in 10 people.
