Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Khoa:Enrollment and training by major group is an inevitable development trend of Vietnam's higher education. Currently, many countries in the world have conducted university enrollment by major group and school group. With this approach, it will promote universities to enhance conditions to ensure training quality; ensure publicity and transparency in determining and announcing enrollment targets; balance the training scale between professions, in accordance with the needs of society.
Admission by major group will open up many opportunities and favorable conditions for students in the process of studying as well as finding jobs after graduation. Moreover, in the admission process, admission by major group will open up many opportunities for candidates when choosing a career, the chance of being admitted by candidates will be higher than the method of admission by major as in previous years.
It is also important to note that, in the case of groups of majors and each group of majors using the same admission score, there will no longer be a phenomenon of majors with high competition rates and majors with low competition rates. In addition, candidates who meet the standard score will be admitted to the same group of majors, and the range of admission scores for candidates will be wider. From there, the chance of being admitted and studying the right major of candidates will increase significantly.
On the other hand, as we know, in the past, when enrolling students by major, many students after entering school felt that their chosen major was not suitable, so they dropped out of school to review and retake exams for other majors; doing so was both costly for the family and society and a waste of the students' time.
Meanwhile, enrollment and training by major group create opportunities for students after being admitted to study to change their major - choose another major in the same major group; or can register to study at the same time a second major in another major group.
PV:Professor, can you elaborate on the current majors and the admission process? And if admitted, many candidates are concerned about the major they will study after completing phase 1?
Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Khoa:According to the 2016 school year enrollment plan, Vinh University has 5,000 quotas for 5 groups of majors, which are the Economics group; Engineering and Technology group; Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries - Environment group; Social Sciences and Humanities group; Natural Pedagogy group; Social Pedagogy group; (Gifted Pedagogy, English Pedagogy and English Language majors enroll by major)...
In terms of admission principles, there is not much difference from 2015. Accordingly, admission is based on the results of the National High School Exam, the admission score will be taken from high to low until the quota of the majors is full. Particularly for the three majors: Agronomy, Aquaculture and Agricultural Extension, in addition to the results of the National High School Exam, the school also considers admission based on academic records. In which, the total score of Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology of all 3 years of high school (6 semesters) must be from 99 points or higher.

Candidates come to register for admission to Vinh University in the 2016 school year. |
When registering for admission, candidates must write down both the group of majors and the majors they are applying for in the application form (major registration is the basis for the school to arrange students for phase II at the end of phase I). After being admitted, the student's study program will be divided into 2 phases. In which, phase I: training time is 1.5 years; phase II: training time is 2.5 years (for 4-year training system); 3.5 years (for 5-year training system).
After completing phase I, based on the major registered for admission in the university admission application, the scores of the 3 subjects according to the admission subject group and the student's phase I learning results, the school will consider and assign majors for students to study in phase II of majors and majors. This is a great advantage that implementing training by major group brings to students, helping students to be more proactive in the process of choosing a career, meeting the human resources and occupations that society needs.

Enrollment by major group is also an important step in the process of autonomy and self-responsibility of the school. Implementing enrollment by major group is a necessary task, bringing practical benefits to students, schools and society. On the one hand, it opens up many opportunities in learning and employment for students after graduation, contributing to meeting the requirements of fundamental and comprehensive innovation in education and training to serve the cause of industrialization and modernization in the conditions of a socialist-oriented market economy and international integration. On the other hand, it is the basis and foundation for Vinh University to become a key national university, a member of the Southeast Asian university network.
