Posthumously awarding the Fatherland Protection Medal to a police officer who died while on duty

On December 31, 2023, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam signed Decision No. 1811/QD-CTN on posthumously awarding the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to comrade Hoang The Thang - former police officer of Hung Tien commune, Nam Dan district, who bravely sacrificed his life in the fight against crime, contributing to maintaining political security, order, social safety and protecting the Fatherland.

At the ceremony, authorized by the President, Colonel Tran Hong Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Provincial Police Department awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to the family of comrade Hoang The Thang.

The Deputy Director of the Provincial Police shared the grief and loss with the family of comrade Hoang The Thang; at the same time expressed admiration for the heroic sacrifice of the comrade. According to Colonel Tran Hong Quang, the sacrifice of the comrade demonstrated the spirit of determination to fight against crime, contributing to maintaining political security, order and social safety in the area; protecting the peace of the homeland and the country.

Previously, at about 7:33 p.m. on October 10, 2023, upon receiving a report that Nguyen Dinh Tri (born in 1970), residing in Yen Qua hamlet, Hung Tien commune, had caused a fight and slashed someone, comrade Hoang The Thang, a part-time police officer, quickly arrived at the scene to coordinate in preventing the incident; at the same time, he telegraphed to Hung Tien commune police to deploy forces to the scene to resolve the matter.

However, when the Commune Police were on the move, Comrade Thang was already at the scene. Realizing that Tri had drunk alcohol and had attacked a neighbor, and threatened people around, Comrade Thang approached to persuade and persuade, and at the same time, tried to stop the subject's actions. However, taking advantage of the darkness, Nguyen Dinh Tri suddenly stabbed Comrade Thang in the left chest with a knife.

Immediately afterward, when the Hung Tien Commune Police working group arrived at the scene, comrade Hoang The Thang had collapsed not far from the initial scene, while Nguyen Dinh Tri had locked the door inside the house.

Hung Tien Commune Police urgently coordinated with the people to take comrade Thang to the emergency room, and at the same time, reported the incident to the leaders of Nam Dan District Police. Very quickly after that, Nam Dan District Police mobilized 25 officers and soldiers with full support tools to be present at the scene; calculated plans, approached the house, persistently persuaded and persuaded. By 8:30 p.m. the same day, the subject was successfully controlled. At the same time, Nam Dan District Police received information that comrade Thang had passed away.
