The Congress has the theme of “Strengthening the building of a clean and strong Party; promoting the strength of the entire nation and socialist democracy; comprehensively and synchronously promoting the renovation process; firmly protecting the Fatherland, maintaining a peaceful and stable environment; striving to soon turn the country into a basically modern industrialized country.”

The French news agency AFP reported that the 12th Congress will discuss and approve the socio-economic development plan for the next 5 years, with the goal of maintaining impressive economic growth of nearly 7% per year, one of the highest growth rates in Asia.

With a series of trade agreements, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), experts and foreign investors are calling on Vietnam to step up reform measures, including banking sector reform and further promoting the equitization of state-owned enterprises.

On the same day, the American news agency AP reported that the 12th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will select a new generation of leaders to lead the country for the next five years, including the positions of Party General Secretary, President, Prime Minister and National Assembly Chairman.

Vietnam’s next leadership will play a key role in determining the pace of economic reform in the country, which has attracted foreign investment and established a fledgling stock market. Under the Communist Party’s leadership, Vietnam’s per capita income has tripled in the past 10 years to $2,100.

Vedomosti - Russia's major political newspaper - published an article on January 21 emphasizing that the 12th Congress has important significance, deciding the future development of Vietnam.

Vedomosti reporters in Hanoi, citing the Congress documents, said that this Congress focuses on main goals such as "promoting the building of a clean and strong Party; consolidating and promoting the strength of the people and socialist democracy."

Although the macroeconomic situation is still relatively difficult, under the leadership of the Communist Party, Vietnam has maintained a relatively high economic growth rate, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growing steadily over the past five years.

According to the article, during more than a week of work, delegates will evaluate and summarize 30 years of implementing the Doi Moi policy, review the implementation of the 11th Congress resolution, and outline directions, priority tasks and goals for national development in the 2016-2020 period./.
