Vietnam firmly pursues the goal of national independence associated with socialism.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed at the reception for heads of delegations of parties attending the 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties.

On the afternoon of October 29, at the Party Central Committee Headquarters, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong received heads of delegations of parties attending the 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties held in Hanoi.

The international delegates expressed their deep admiration for the heroic Vietnamese people's struggle for national liberation, for President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam. They warmly congratulated and considered the achievements of the Doi Moi process towards socialism under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam over the past 30 years to be of utmost importance, a source of great encouragement and motivation for the current international communist and workers' movement.

The international delegates warmly thanked and highly appreciated the important contributions of the Communist Party of Vietnam in successfully hosting the 18th International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties. The meeting actively contributed to consolidating and strengthening the solidarity and unity of the international communist and workers' movement; and affirmed to continue to strongly support the revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese people under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong warmly welcomed representatives of communist and workers' parties to the 18th Meeting in Vietnam, expressing his joy at meeting close and loyal friends who have always stood side by side with the Vietnamese people in every stage of the Vietnamese revolution.

The General Secretary highly appreciated the theme and contents of the discussion at this meeting; he said that in the current context, it is very necessary to increase information exchange, share experiences, consolidate solidarity and unity, and promote practical coordination of actions between communist and workers' parties in the struggles for common goals, especially on the eve of the preparation for the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Socialist Revolution in 2017.

Sharing with delegates the characteristics, nature and lessons learned from the process of innovation towards socialism in Vietnam, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam will always adhere to the goal of national independence associated with socialism; sincerely thanking communist and workers' parties of other countries for their solidarity and strong support for the Communist Party and people of Vietnam in the past struggle for national liberation and reunification as well as in the current cause of innovation and national development.

Previously, at the Closing Session, delegates attending the Meeting agreed on measures to improve and enhance the effectiveness of the joint coordination mechanism, elected a Working Group for the 2016-2018 term consisting of 19 member parties, including the Communist Party of Vietnam, and unanimously approved the Appeal as a joint document of the Meeting setting out directions for coordinated action of communist and workers' parties of the countries in the coming time, especially activities to prepare for the 100th anniversary of the Great October Revolution in Russia in 2017.

The appeal also stressed the importance of the struggle for peace and socialism, protecting the independence and sovereignty of nations, the need to resolve disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law; affirmed solidarity and long-term, consistent support for the cause of building and defending the socialist Fatherland of the Vietnamese people./.
