Vietnam reaffirms stance on East Sea at AMM 50
Attending the 50th AMM taking place in Manila, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed Vietnam's stance on the East Sea issue.
Referring to the East Sea issue at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting held on August 5 in Manila, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh affirmed Vietnam's consistent stance on the importance of peace, stability, security, and maritime and aviation safety in the East Sea for regional peace and stability.

PDeputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed the need to peacefully resolve disputes in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and fully respect legal and diplomatic processes; and countries need to continue supporting efforts to build trust and prevent conflicts.
At the same time, the Head of the Vietnamese delegation also affirmed that building a suitable and satisfactory approach to the East Sea is, on the one hand, a practical contribution of ASEAN to long-term peace and stability in the region; on the other hand, it is a measure of ASEAN's capacity, effectiveness and central role in regional and international issues.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh welcomed ASEAN and China to continue fully implementing the DOC, and suggested that ASEAN step up exchanges with China and soon start substantive negotiations on an effective and legally binding Code of Conduct in the East Sea./.
