The golden rice fields in the sun in Xop Kha village have reached harvest season. People often help each other harvest rice "rolling". Due to the characteristics of the fields on the mountain with steep slopes, small areas, and inaccessibility by machines, the Khmu people in Yen Hoa still maintain the manual harvesting method. The Khmu people in Yen Hoa use a hoe to harvest rice. This is a traditional tool of the people for generations. The hoe is made of iron and bamboo, small enough to fit in the palm of the hand. "Here, people often use a hoe to harvest rice that is evenly ripe, has large, firm grains for seeds. When harvesting rice, they usually harvest enough to eat. Only at the end of the season when the rice starts to ripen do people harvest it all and bring it home," said Xop Kha village chief Lu Van Quang. Photo: HT

The summer-autumn rice in the fields of Western Nghe An has turned golden yellow. Xop Kha village has 85 households. Most of the households have seasonal rice fields, but the trend of rice production is decreasing as children go to work far away and send more and more money back to buy rice. Currently, the agricultural production force in Xop Kha is mainly the elderly. Photo: HT

Mr. Tham Van Son's family in Xop Kha village grows about 4-5 quintals of rice each year, enough to eat until the next crop. Mr. Son said that his children have gone to work far away, leaving only his grandparents at home. His family's rice fields are located right on the mountainside next to the house, so harvesting is convenient, without having to travel far like other households. Therefore, he often harvests the ripe rice and brings it home to dry gradually. Photo: HT
