Nationwide, there were 11,495 traffic accidents.
In 2021, the situationTraffic SafetyTraffic accidents nationwide continued to have positive changes, all three criteria of number of cases, number of deaths and number of injuries due to traffic accidents decreased sharply compared to the same period in 2020.
Specifically, there were 11,495 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 5,799 people and injuring 8,018 people. Compared to the same period in 2020, traffic accidents decreased by 3,496 cases (-23.32%), 1,068 deaths (-15.55%), 3,143 injuries (-28.16%). Nationwide, 55 provinces and centrally-run cities had a decrease in the number of deaths due to traffic accidents compared to the same period in 2020, of which 2 localities had a decrease of over 40%.

For Nghe An province, in 2021, the work of ensuring traffic safety has received attention from local authorities. Therefore, traffic accidents continued to decrease in all three criteria. During the year, there were 202 traffic accidents, killing 124 people and injuring 146 people; compared to the same period in 2020, there was a decrease of 60 cases (22.9%), 19 deaths (13.2%), and 40 injuries (21.5%).
During the year, the traffic police nationwide handled over 2.8 million cases of traffic safety violations, imposed fines of nearly VND3,000 billion; revoked over 248,000 driving licenses, and detained over 460,000 vehicles of all kinds.
The Transport Inspectorate has conducted nearly 70,000 inspections, checks, and administrative sanctions on over 49,000 violations, with fines totaling over VND226 billion; detained 317 cars; suspended the operation of 123 wharves and 54 inland waterway vehicles; supervised 614 car driving tests and 445 motorbike driving tests.
Reduce traffic accidents by 5-10% on all 3 criteria
At the conference, ministries, branches, provinces and cities reported on the work of ensuring traffic safety of units and localities, as well as proposed solutions for the coming time.
Concluding the conference, Comrade Pham Binh Minh - Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee commended the efforts of ministries, branches and localities in ensuring traffic safety in 2021.
The 2022 Traffic Safety Year Plan with the theme "Building a safe traffic culture associated with effective control of the Covid-19 epidemic", the Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to focus on implementing 4 goals, including: Raising awareness of voluntary compliance with the law and building a safe traffic culture; Annually reducing traffic accidents by 5-10% in terms of the number of cases, deaths and injuries; Overcoming traffic congestion on main traffic routes, key traffic hubs in large cities and preventing traffic congestion when controlling the epidemic; Preventing the spread and outbreak of disease in transportation.

To effectively implement the above objectives, it is necessary to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of leadership and direction, first of all, to strengthen inspection and supervision of the implementation of Conclusion No. 45-KL/TW dated February 1, 2019 of the Secretariat on continuing to effectively implement Directive No. 18 of the 11th Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in ensuring traffic safety.
Ensure the progress and quality of key transport infrastructure investment projects, in conjunction with reviewing and thoroughly handling black spots and potential traffic accident spots. Innovate the work of propaganda, dissemination and education of laws on traffic safety in the direction of taking behavioral changes as the criteria for evaluating results; promote propaganda on social networks and digital infrastructure.
Along with that, improving the capacity of rescue, treatment of victims and overcoming the consequences of traffic accidents; training first aid skills for traffic accidents for grassroots medical staff, law enforcement forces and traffic participants...
Comrade Pham Binh Minh - Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee also emphasized that, in the immediate future, during the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival 2022, ministries, branches and localities need to strictly implement the peak period of ensuring traffic safety and order, with the goal of making it convenient and safe for people to travel and celebrate the Spring Festival.
