Car carrying 34 people going to pagoda plunges into abyss

The cause was that the passenger bus carrying 34 people going to the pagoda avoided a motorbike going in the opposite direction, so it collided with the back of a 7-seater car, then continued to crash through the barrier and plunged into the abyss.

At 6:20 p.m. on March 5, a passenger bus overturned in Group 6, Zone 9, Thanh Son Ward, Uong Bi City, Quang Ninh Province. The passenger bus with license plate 29B-02400 carrying 34 tourists returning from Ba Vang Pagoda collided with a 7-seat car, the driver lost control and the car overturned from the road down the slope.

According to the Traffic Safety Committee of Quang Ninh province, the cause of the accident was that the passenger car with license plate 29B-20400 was avoiding a motorbike going in the opposite direction, so it collided with the back of a 7-seat car with license plate 37A-02473 going in the same direction, then continued to crash through the barrier on the side of the road and plunged into an empty lot about 3m deep from the roadbed. At the time of the accident, there were 34 people on the car who had just returned from a pilgrimage from Ba Vang Pagoda.

Immediately after the accident, the authorities arrived and took the victims to the Vietnam - Sweden Hospital in Uong Bi for examination. According to initial reports, there were no deaths, 4 people were slightly injured, 9 people had minor scratches. By 8pm, most of the victims were stable in terms of mental and physical health.

Immediately after receiving information about the accident, Mr. Nguyen Duc Long, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, Head of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, directed Mr. Vu Van Dien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant agencies and Uong Bi City to directly go to the scene, urgently deploy rescue work, and determine the cause of the incident.

Quang Ninh province supported each victim with 1 million VND, Uong Bi city also supported 1 million VND/person.

Currently, the authorities are continuing to investigate and clarify the incident./.
