Vietnam's PT-76B tank is equipped with a gun with a stabilization system, so it can fire accurately while swimming, as well as moving on land.

During the recent island recapture exercise of the 147th Marine Brigade in coordination with the warship squadrons of the 125th and 170th Brigades, the PT-76B tanks of the 147th Division publicly “demonstrated” their ability to fire while swimming for the first time. The PT-76B tank is the main tank of the Vietnam Marine Corps in general and Brigade 147 in particular. This is a powerful assault weapon, the vanguard in amphibious attacks to retake islands, coastlines... The PT-76B has many advantages, one of which is its good wading ability with two water jet engines allowing it to reach speeds of up to 10.2km/h. |
In particular, the main firepower of the PT-76B has a high rate of fire and is extremely accurate. It is an effective weapon to support amphibious troops to destroy enemy defense points, armored vehicles, light tanks as well as enemy infantry. |
The main weapon of the PT-76B is the 76.2mm D-56TS gun with a 2-axis stabilization system STP-2P Zarya 2, smoke exhaust (to prevent gunpowder smoke from being pushed back into the cockpit). In the photo is the D-56TS gun's loading unit in the PT-76B turret, the rate of fire (depending on the gunner) is up to 7 rounds/minute. |
Thanks to the 2-axis stabilization system, the gun can accurately fire at targets while the vehicle is moving. Even when moving on water, the D-56TS gun can still accurately attack targets. |
The 7.62mm D-56TS gun of the PT-76 tank is equipped with many types of ammunition including: BM-354P high-velocity armor-piercing ammunition with an effective range of 650m, penetrating 127mm or 60mm thick armor at a 60-degree angle of impact at a distance of 2,000m; BK-350M high-explosive anti-tank ammunition with an effective range of 650m, maximum 1,000m; OF-350 high-explosive fragmentation ammunition with an effective range of 600m, maximum range of 4,000m. |
Although the penetration power of the D-56TS gun is no longer effective against main battle tanks, it is still effective against light tanks and modern amphibious armored vehicles. |
