1,000 Nghe An residents walk in response to 'World Heart Day'
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 14, at Ho Chi Minh Square, Vinh City, Vietnam Heart Institute, Vietnam Heart Health Fund in collaboration with Nghe An Department of Health organized a walking program in response to "World Heart Day" September 29, 2019; with the theme "Beautiful shape - Healthy heart".
Attending the ceremony were Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Manh Hung - Director of Vietnam Heart Institute, Vice President of Vietnam Cardiology Association; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Quang - General Secretary of Vietnam Cardiology Association; Associate Professor, Dr. Duong Dinh Chinh - Member of Provincial Party Committee, Director of Department of Health and representatives of a number of relevant departments and branches.

According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world; each year 17.9 million people die from cardiovascular-related diseases.
World Heart Day is a day to unite the community in the fight against cardiovascular disease and reduce the global burden of disease; through response activities, to promote and disseminate public awareness about improving cardiovascular health, preventing and avoiding cardiovascular risks in life.

Speaking at the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Manh Hung - Director of the Vietnam Heart Institute shared useful information on how to prevent cardiovascular disease; at the same time, he recommended that everyone take measures to take care of themselves, protect their health, and reduce the risk of this disease; with the aim of promoting action to educate each person to control risk factors such as: not smoking, reducing salty food, not eating a lot of animal fat, limiting alcohol consumption, exercising every day, avoiding anxiety and stress, and having regular health check-ups; to avoid at least 80% of premature deaths due to heart disease and stroke.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, more than 1,000 people participated in a walk around Ho Chi Minh Square.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Heart Institute also organized blood pressure measurement and health consultation for nearly 500 people in Vinh City and examined, provided medicine and gave free gifts to 300 people in Nam Cuong commune, Nam Dan district./.
