12 months in prison for illegal possession of drugs

Nghia Dan District People's Court has just held a public trial of the case of Nguyen Dau Tuan (residing in Hamlet 9, Nghia Thinh Commune, Nghia Dan District) for the crime of Illegal possession of narcotics.

At around 10:00 a.m. on May 27, 2018, Nguyen Dau Tuan walked to the Tran Bridge area in Hamlet 5, Nghia Thinh Commune, Nghia Dan District to meet and buy a package of heroin from an unknown man for 800,000 VND to use.
On the way back, when Nguyen Dau Tuan was standing on National Highway 48E in the sugarcane field area of Hamlet 9, Nghia Thinh Commune, Nghia Dan District, he was caught red-handed by the Nghia Dan District Police working group, confiscated in his pocket a package of heroin weighing 0.22 grams.
At the trial, the defendant Nguyen Dau Tuan honestly bowed his head and admitted his guilt. Applying Clause 1, Article 249 of the Penal Code, the Trial Panel decided to sentence Nguyen Dau Tuan to 12 months in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.
