(Baonghean) - Hungry for drugs, Tuan and Quyen followed two female students to find an opportunity to rob them. Sneaking into the rented room, Quyen quickly stole the female student's laptop and then climbed into the car of his accomplices who were waiting to escape during the night.

Robbery of student property

At about 22:40 on April 19, 2019, Tran Thi Trang (born in 2000, residing in Nghia Son block, Quang Phong ward, Thai Hoa town) and Nguyen Thi Thu Thanh (born in 2000, residing in Tan Thanh block, Hoa Hieu ward, Thai Hoa town) were in a rented room in the rented area of Mr. Dao Xuan Q.'s family (born in 1952, at 16 Phuong Hoang street, block 6, Trung Do ward, Vinh city).

While Trang was taking out her new laptop that she had just bought in the afternoon to show off to her friends, suddenly a young man wearing a mask and holding a bamboo stick rushed into the room, scaring both of them. The young man hit Trang hard on the arm with the stick, causing the two students to cower in fear and hide in the corner of the room.

The young man quickly snatched the laptop and ran out into the street. Coming to her senses, Trang shouted “robbery, robbery” and ran after him but couldn’t catch up. The robber had jumped onto his accomplice’s motorbike, who was waiting, and sped off into the night.

After being encouraged by her roommates, Trang went to Trung Do Ward Police (Vinh City) to report the incident. Realizing that this was a serious case, causing panic and anxiety among students, the Ward Police called the Vinh City Police leaders for timely direction.

That same night, investigators and detectives from the Criminal Police Team arrived at the scene to investigate the hot trail. Trang told the police that she had just bought the computer for 6 million VND to support her studies. To have money to buy the computer, Trang had to work part-time, save money, and spend sparingly for many months.

Determining the seriousness of the case, Vinh City Police established Project 419C to solve the case.

"At that time, apart from the victim's few statements, there was almost no information about the perpetrator. Furthermore, the incident took place late at night, the perpetrator used a mask to cover his face, and the time of the crime was too quick. In a state of panic, the victim could not identify the perpetrator, so the investigation encountered many difficulties.

An investigator said.

7 months of searching

Despite the difficulties in the investigation, the investigators were determined not to give up and to catch the perpetrator at all costs. After tirelessly searching for clues, with the perseverance and intelligence of the detectives and investigators in the Task Force, the clues gradually became clear. And by mid-November 2019, the Task Force had clearly identified the identities of the two suspects who committed the daring robbery.

They were Nguyen Anh Tuan (born in 1989) and Le Viet Quyen (born in 1991), both residing in Hung Dung ward, Vinh city. When the police arrived at the house, these two subjects were not present in the area, and their families did not know where they were or what they were doing.

Just a few days later, the Task Force identified the hiding place of the two subjects. On November 21, 2019, a task force was present in Duc Tho district, Ha Tinh province to arrest Tuan when he was hiding in this area. At 5:30 p.m. the same day, the police arrested Quyen when he appeared in Hung Dung ward, Vinh city.

Through investigation, the subjects initially confessed to having robbed Trang on April 19, 2019. After robbing the property, the two subjects took the laptop and sold it to a stranger in the train station market area for 1.5 million VND. The two subjects split the money and spent it all before breaking up.

What is special is that both Tuan and Quyen have previous convictions for robbery and are drug addicts. During their time in rehabilitation at a center in Nghe An province from 2015 to 2017, Quyen and Tuan met each other. After completing rehabilitation, both of them started partying and drinking again, so not long after, both of them relapsed.

Because they did not have a stable job, in order to have money to spend, the two of them discussed a plan to rob people. At around 10:40 p.m. on April 19, 2019, Tuan drove a Jupiter motorbike with license plate 37B1-070.63 carrying Quyen on Phuong Hoang Street in Trung Do Ward, Vinh City to find "prey". At this time, Tuan discovered that there were 2 female students walking ahead, turning into a row of rented rooms at No. 16, Phuong Hoang Street, Block 6, Trung Do Ward, Vinh City, so he decided to follow them.

When the two female students entered the rented room, Quyen and Tuan were outside discussing a plan to rob them. Seeing a bamboo stick in front of the rented room, Quyen picked it up and went to the door of room number 203. Looking into the room, Quyen saw two female students sitting on the bed using a laptop, so Quyen took the stick and threatened and hit one of the two female students' hands, quickly stole the laptop, climbed into the car of his accomplices waiting to escape.
