30 years old sentenced to death for trafficking a hundred kilos of drugs
(Baonghean.vn) - Nguyen Sy Thang was sentenced to death for buying and selling nearly 10 kg of drugs. Thang later appealed, claiming that the investigation agency's prosecution of him for buying and selling was incorrect.
According to the indictment, around July 2020, Thang received a phone call from a man named Bom asking to buy 1 kg of drugs. Thang contacted Truong Duc Anh (residing in Nghia Thanh commune) and was quoted 180 million VND.

On July 14, 2020, under the direction of Duc Anh, Thang went to milestone number 6 in Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district to get drugs. Anh promised Thang that he would pay 40 million VND for the work.
At 5:00 p.m. the same day, Thang brought a styrofoam box containing 9 packages of drugs to a passenger bus to be delivered to Ho Chi Minh City. Thang took the remaining package and delivered it to Bom.
On the way, Thang took more than 11 grams of drugs and put them in his bag for use. When Thang arrived at Nghia Xuan commune, he was discovered by Quy Hop police.
From Thang's testimony, the investigation agency seized 9 packages of drugs on the passenger bus. The investigation agency determined that the total amount of drugs for which Thang must bear criminal responsibility is nearly 10 kg.
At the first instance trial, defendant Thang only admitted to drug possession. Regarding drug trafficking, the defendant did not admit, stating that he only worked for Duc Anh. Despite his evasive denial, Nguyen Sy Thang was convicted by the court.sentence6 years in prison for Illegal possession of narcotics, death penalty for Illegal drug trafficking. The total combined sentence the defendant must receive is death.
Nguyen Sy Thang then appealed for a reduced sentence. But at the appeal hearing, the defendant changed his appeal, stating that he was only guilty of transporting, not of drug trafficking.
The appellate court determined that although the defendant did not admit to drug trafficking, based on the collected investigation documents, the prosecution of the defendant was the right person, the right crime, the right law, and there was no injustice. Considering the defendant's appeal was unfounded, the court decided to reject the appeal. The death sentence for defendant Nguyen Sy Thang was upheld.
