(Baonghean.vn) - To effectively exploit the potential strengths of the locality, this winter crop, Anh Son district has directed the trial planting of 23 hectares of German Marabel potato variety under the "4-house" linkage model.

These days, in the fields of the Song Lam alluvial plain in Phuc Son commune, farmers are actively working the land and planting experimental Marabel potato varieties from Germany. Dang Xuan Long's family in village 12, Phuc Son commune has 2 sao of alluvial land, in previous years they mainly planted squash and gourds. This year, the local government is implementing a trial planting of potatoes, and his family has registered to participate.

According to Mr. Long, compared to other crops, planting potatoes is initially more convenient, less labor-intensive, requires less investment and is easier to care for. In addition to 100% seed support, during the planting process, there are also staff who go to the fields to provide technical guidance, so people are very excited. If the first trial planting is effective, in the coming years, Mr. Long's family will continue to cooperate with the company to expand the potato growing area.

To keep up with the season with other families in the village, these days, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung's family in village 13, Phuc Son commune, is mobilizing manpower to go to the field to plant potatoes. Mr. Trung said: When registering to participate in the experimental potato planting, his family and the villagers were thoroughly trained from land preparation, planting seeds to pest control.

The way to plant and care for potatoes is quite simple. After preparing the soil, the planting bed is raised to a height of 25 - 30cm and a width of 50 - 60cm. Potatoes are planted at a density of 25 - 30cm. The time from planting to harvest is about 3 months.

If the current favorable weather continues, by early March, potatoes will be ready for harvest, with an expected yield of 1.5-2 tons per sao. What makes farmers feel secure is that the company will purchase the product at a minimum price of VND5,000 per kilogram of tubers. If the price is like that, after deducting all production costs, farmers will still earn a profit of about VND5 million per sao.

Mr. Nguyen The Phuong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuc Son Commune said: Phuc Son Commune has nearly 20 hectares of alluvial land along the Lam River specializing in growing vegetables. This winter crop, the commune has put into trial planting 5 hectares of potatoes with the participation of 32 families, the household planting at least 1 sao, the household planting at most 10 sao. This is the first model of cooperation between enterprises and farmers implemented in the commune, from the stage of selecting seeds, care, and planting techniques, all are guided by company staff in the fields for the people.

In order for this model to bring high economic value, Phuc Son commune has promoted propaganda and mobilized households to register to grow potatoes according to the planning of concentrated production areas. Participating households will be supported with 100% of seed money from the NTM construction fund, specifically 1.4 million VND/sao, with the total support amount for the whole commune being 135 million VND.

In particular, the locality has closely coordinated with the district's specialized departments and connected with An Viet International Agriculture Joint Stock Company in Hanoi in transferring science and technology, providing seeds, supporting fertilizers, biological products for plant care, pest control and product consumption, with the lowest price of 5,000 VND/kg.

Entering the 2019 winter crop, the entire Anh Son district planted 330 hectares of vegetables, beans, squash, and pumpkins; 55 hectares of sweet potatoes; 89 hectares of peanuts and beans. Concentrated in the communes of Hoa Son, Cam Son, Tao Son, Lang Son, Thach Son, and Phuc Son. This year, in order to shift the crop structure, the district boldly introduced German Marabel potatoes to grow on an area of 23 hectares, of which Tam Son commune planted 7 hectares, Cam Son commune 9 hectares, Phuc Son commune 5 hectares, and Lang Son commune 2 hectares.

Marabel potato is a new variety selected by the method of importing from abroad, with productivity and quality superior to other potato varieties, average yield per crop from 1.5-2 tons/sao, short growing time of only 90-100 days, with good resistance to pests and diseases.

To encourage households to participate in planting, Anh Son district has supported 70% of the cost of seeds and 50% of the cost of NPK fertilizer for people in the three communes of Tam Son, Cam Son and Lang Son from the National Target Program on New Rural Construction with a total amount of more than 514 million VND.
