Arrested gambling group using football betting with the amount of more than 10 billion VND

On December 7, 2022, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police said that under the direct direction of the leaders of the Provincial Police, the Head of the Investigation Police Agency of the Provincial Police, the unit had just successfully broken the case.gambleUsing high technology in the form of large-scale inter-provincial football betting, initially arrested 08 subjects with the transaction amount for football betting of more than 10 billion VND.

Through the work of grasping the situation and managing the subjects, the Criminal Police Department discovered a group of subjects gambling in the form of inter-provincial football betting with large sums of money.

This group of subjects was led by Nguyen Van Hieu (born in 1994), residing in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau district. Hieu also had 7 subordinate agents in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.

After reporting and asking for direction from the leaders, on December 5, 2022, the Criminal Police Department simultaneously deployed 08 Working Groups to arrest and search the residences of the subjects in 02 provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, seizing 01 car, 01 computer, 07 mobile phones and many related exhibits. The authorities also proceeded to freeze 05 bank accounts.

In addition to Nguyen Van Hieu, 07 other subjects were arrested by the police, including 02 subjects Nguyen Trung Dung (born in 1974), residing in Dien Thanh commune, Dien Chau district; Nguyen Nhat Thanh (born in 1985), residing in Ben Thuy ward, Vinh city and 05 subjects residing in Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province including: Tang Hoai Nam (born in 1991), residing in Ky Tan commune; Vu Trung Hieu (born in 1996), Nguyen The Cuong (born in 1994), Phung Quang Phap (born in 1992) all residing in Hung Tri ward and Hoang Trung Thong (born in 1995), residing in Ky Phu commune.

Initial investigation determined: From the beginning of the 2022 World Cup season to the time of arrest, the amount of money the subjects transacted for football betting was more than 10 billion VND.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Province is temporarily detaining the above subjects to investigate and clarify and continue to verify and expand the case.
