Overcome circumstances and illness

The night of December 27th was a sleepless night for Cuong because he received so many messages and congratulations from teachers, brothers, and friends.

Cuong could not hide his emotion: "Yesterday afternoon, my Literature teacher called to inform me that I won 3 high prizes in the exam.Provincial excellent students, I was so happy, so surprised, I couldn't believe my ears. Immediately after that, my phone continuously received congratulations from everyone".

In the recent excellent student exam, Cuong took the exam at Nam Dan 1 High School cluster. He achieved high results in three essay subjects: Literature 17 points; Geography 17 points; History 15.88 points. With these scores, Cuong won 2 first prizes in Literature and Geography, and second prize in History.

Cuong said: The day I took the exam in Nam Dan, I was very nervous and worried, because before the exam, I was known by many people, and the teachers had high expectations of me. I was also the first candidate in the school to take 3 Social Science subjects at the same time, while my health was very weak. However, when I took the test, I was very determined. I wrote on 14 pages of paper for all 3 subjects. And in the room, my classmates were not far behind, they all wrote like machines. Thinking back, it is scary.

Receiving the exam results, Cuong was both happy and a little regretful. "Because I was so nervous, I made many mistakes in my test. When I left, I wasn't very confident. Especially in History, I misunderstood one question. I'm happy to have this result, but I still feel a little regretful" - Cuong confided.

Taking the provincial gifted student exam for 3 subjects at the same time, Cuong's review journey was quite difficult and arduous. Since May, he has suffered from a skin disease that has not yet been cured. The itching keeps him awake, sometimes scratching until it bleeds. So he only studies when his body is stable.

I took medicine, applied medicine, and went to many places for treatment. Many times I wanted to skip the exam and ask the teacher to let me take a day off to reduce the pressure, but thanks to the teachers' encouragement and thinking about the past days, Cuong tried again.

Cuong wrote on his personal page: “Sweat was shed during the days of studying for exams and treating illness, tears were shed right when receiving the exam papers. We should not be complacent but perhaps we should be a little proud now, because at least we did not give up despite all the obstacles that stood in our way.

Thank you to the teachers who have given me faith, imparted knowledge, inspired hope in me and now it has blossomed. Thank you to my brothers, sisters, friends, who have given me documents, experience and motivation, and to all those who have always encouraged me throughout this journey. I apologize for the times when I was not diligent, did not try hard, and sometimes made my teachers and everyone worry.

Cuong said he had a background in Literature since middle school, but in high school he studied all Social Sciences subjects. "I can say that I am good at all 3 subjects in block C" - Cuong affirmed.

To suit himself and achieve good results in his studies, Cuong maintains his own way of studying: "Because I am not healthy enough to review, solearning methodMy motto is "learn less, understand more". If you want to remember something, you must first understand its nature. I ask myself why; read a lot of documents to supplement and improve my knowledge; divide the content into small parts, and make a weekly and monthly review plan.

In addition to studying at school, Cuong always considers the internet an effective learning channel: “I am not too dependent on teachers. I always keep in mind: Teachers are guides, success or failure is up to me. Self-study is the driving force that helps me move forward.”

Sharing the joy of her student winning a high prize, teacher Nguyen Thi Van - Cuong's Literature teacher said: "I have been teaching for 20 years and have trained many courses, but I have never seen a student as impressed as Cuong, who has a very good mindset and has his own path. Cuong is very hard-working and progressive, this result is very worthy of him."

Outstanding Catholic Students

Cuong is the second child in a Catholic family of three children in Long Nha village, Thanh Khe commune (Thanh Chuong). Cuong's parents are both farmers, and the family's living conditions are still difficult. Because Cuong's health is "not as good as his siblings'", he is given "priority" in studying and rarely has to work in the fields.

Cuong shared: “My parents often remind me: We have suffered a lot. Now if you want to be happy, you have to try hard to study, otherwise if you work in the fields, you will always be like your parents.”

During his high school years, Cuong was an excellent student for many years, valedictorian of several cluster competitions and was a student with a reputation for beautiful handwriting.

In secondary school, he won the title of excellent student of the district in 2 subjects: Literature and History. In grade 9, he won the third prize in excellent student of literature at the provincial level. The total score of grade 10: 8.7, grade 11: 9.0. Especially in the recent provincial excellent student exam of grade 12, Cuong won 2 first prizes in Literature and Geography, and second prize in History.

Not only was Cuong a good student in literature and writing at high school, he was also an exemplary Catholic student of Mo Vinh parish (Thanh Khe commune). In Catholic catechism exams, he often won first prize in the parish and district.

Winning three high prizes at the same time, Cuong was highly praised by his teachers and friends. In great joy, Cuong shared his wish: Whatever I do, I aim to help the elderly and children. For me, anything is fine as long as I am enthusiastic and dedicated.

After finishing high school, I will probably take the exam to become a teacher. I want to teach children. I want to continue my dream with poor children, because up until now, thanks to the help of teachers, I have been able to be who I am today.

He doesn't take many notes, only selects good and sharp ideas when reading and listening to teachers' lectures.

In the recent provincial excellent student competition, Dang Thuc Hua High School won 2 first prizes, 9 second prizes, 10 third prizes, 3 consolation prizes, ranked first in the high school block in Thanh Chuong district, and Cuong alone won 3 high prizes. The achievements of Cuong and other students have continued the glorious tradition of teaching and learning of the school in the midst of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic”./.
