The dedicated man named Jean P worked at the discount supermarket chain Lidl in Barcelona, Spain, for 12 years before he was suddenly fired.
Mr. Jean is a hard worker, spending hours stocking shelves, checking orders and prices so the supermarket is ready to go when it opens.
Surveillance camera footage shows he usually arrives at the supermarket at 5am - an hour and a half before his morning shift begins.
However, Lidl supermarket fired him on the grounds that Jean P had violated the company's regulations prohibiting employees from doing unpaid overtime.
In the dismissal letter, the company accused the employee of "serious violations of labor policy compliance as every minute worked was recorded and paid".
Responding at the trial, Lidl's representative also admitted that the company had never instructed Mr. Jean about the rule of not coming to work early.
Jean P's lawyer Juan Guerra said Lidl was only benefiting from his client's breach. "He was fired for working too much - which is unusual - when all he wanted was to try to keep the store running normally."
The lawsuit is still ongoing.
