This year’s anti-drug action month begins on June 1 with the theme “Think before you start”. According to Senior Lieutenant General Le Quy Vuong, drug-related evils and crimes are becoming a serious concern of the world, causing extremely serious consequences in terms of economy, politics, culture and society. This is the cause and origin of crime, degrading personality, dignity, and destroying moral values ​​and fine cultural traditions of nations.

“Due to many reasons, the situation of crime and drug abuse in our country is still complicated and serious. The amount of drugs transported from abroad into our country is still large, the number of addicts continues to increase, the rate of relapse is high. Recently, there has been a situation of addicts wandering in society, causing violations of the law, causing anxiety and frustration among the people,” said the Deputy Minister of Public Security at the ceremony.

Strengthening propaganda and education activities on the harmful effects of drugs, focusing on propaganda for young people, pupils and students.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Dac Vinh said that the Party Committees and authorities at all levels of Nghe An province always identify drug prevention and control as an important, urgent and regular task. However, Nghe An is currently still one of the localities assessed by the Government and the Ministry of Public Security as having complicated drug problems. Drug smuggling from abroad into Nghe An has not been completely prevented. The number of drug addicts is still high. The use of synthetic drugs, crystal meth, stimulants, and hallucinogens, leading to illegal behavior, tends to increase and spread among young people, affecting security and order in the area. Crime and drug abuse are becoming extremely complicated, posing many great challenges, requiring the efforts and cooperation of the entire political system and all classes of people.

Also at the ceremony, the Secretary of the Nghe An Provincial Party Committee called on every citizen to continue raising awareness of the dangers of drugs; actively fight and denounce drug crimes and evils. Grandparents, parents, and teachers should be shining examples to educate and guide their children and students to understand and stay away from drugs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam acknowledged and praised the Ministry of Public Security and Nghe An province for coordinating the organization of this ceremony, and also acknowledged and thanked the forces involved in the drug prevention work. Especially the soldiers who are facing danger at this moment, many of whom have lost their lives.

“Drugs are a danger and a problem for the whole world. There are currently 275 million people in the world who use and are dependent on drugs. The number of drugs in various forms is constantly increasing. Despite great efforts, Vietnam still has over 230,000 drug addicts with records, but in reality, this number is much higher. Although the number of addicts is lower than the world average, drugs continue to be a great danger, requiring more determination and effort from all levels and sectors,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

“Drug addiction is one of the shortest paths to crime. Let us strive to have no new drug addicts. Let us strive to provide the necessary support for those who are already addicted to drugs, and together help the authorities fight against drug crimes,” the Deputy Prime Minister called at the ceremony.

In the first 6 months of 2019, the authorities nationwide cracked down on 12,285 cases, arrested nearly 20,000 subjects, seized 675 kg of heroin, 507 kg of ketamine, 4,625 kg of synthetic drugs and 131 kg of cocaine. Meanwhile, strictly implementing the Government's direction on the Month of Action against Drugs, from June 1, 2019, Nghe An launched a peak period of drug prevention and control in the whole province. After 3 weeks of implementation, the authorities discovered and arrested 86 drug-related crimes, seizing more than 40 kg of drugs of all kinds.
