Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh: The spirit of Truong Bon victory is immortal!

... Today, at Truong Bon National Historical Site, Nghe An province coordinated with Nhan Dan Newspaper to organize a celebration ceremony and art program."Truong Bon - Legendary land". This is an activity to honor the glorious revolutionary tradition of our army and people in the resistance war against the US to save the country; to express deep gratitude and appreciation to the heroic martyrs, heroic Vietnamese mothers, heroes of the armed forces, wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, former youth volunteers, relatives of martyrs, families with meritorious services to the revolution, including the 13 martyrs of the heroic "Steel Squad" who fell exactly 50 years ago.

On behalf of the leaders of Nghe An province, I would like to warmly welcome the leaders and former leaders of the Party and State; leaders of central ministries and branches; leaders of localities; distinguished delegates, guests, and compatriots and comrades to attend this meaningful program.

Dear compatriots and comrades!

During the resistance war against the US to save the country, Nghe An was the direct great rear of the great front line of the South, the great front line of the great rear line of the socialist North. On the fire line of Zone IV, Truong Bon had a particularly important position on Route 15A, the traffic artery supplying human resources and material resources to the battlefield in the South.

Realizing the extremely important military position of Truong Bon, the US imperialists focused on fierce attacks. In just 4 years, from 1964 to 1968, this key point had to endure 18,936 bombs of various types and thousands of missiles.

In the midst of fierce fire and bullets, life and death were close at hand, thousands of cadres, soldiers, frontline workers and people steadfastly held their ground, fought intelligently and bravely with iron determination.The heart can stop beating but the road cannot be blocked.”; “live clinging to the bridge, clinging to the road; die resilient and brave", maintaining the traffic flow for convoys and troops going to the front line...

Those slogans are the ideals, the mottos for living and fighting of the forces here. On the Truong Bon road full of sacrifices and hardships, the army and people of Nghe An contributed 2 million working days, digging and building millions of square meters of land.³soil and rock; safely transported more than 94,000 motor vehicles; transported and cleared more than 1 million tons of goods. 1,240 outstanding sons of the military, police, youth volunteers, and frontline laborers fell and will forever remain in the bosom of Mother Earth. Their blood has contributed to beautifying the glorious flag of the Fatherland and the patriotic tradition of our people, forever a shining example for today's and future generations to follow.

Among those outstanding groups and individuals, 13 youth volunteers of Squad 2 - "Steel Squad” of Company 317, Team 65, Nghe An Youth Volunteer Corps have become immortal examples of patriotism and revolution. Saying goodbye to their hometowns and families, temporarily putting aside their aspirations of their twenties, young men and women from all over Nghe An returned to Truong Bon; rejoicing in the joy of each convoy of vehicles following each other safely to the battlefield; nervously, anxiously, and tensely counting each bomb that fell to promptly defuse the bombs and clear the road for traffic.

Together they overcame bombs and hardships, deprivation, during the day they exposed themselves to the scorching sun of the Central region, the sweltering heat of the southwest wind to fill bomb craters, level roads and open paths, and at night they took turns wearing white shirts to work.live pile", guiding and guarding convoys passing key points carrying goods to the South.

They left just a few hours before the US Air Force temporarily stopped bombing the North. They did not have time to return to the first peaceful day of November 1968, but it was they who gave strength to our entire army and people to reach the day of total victory and wrote a legend of Truong Bon.

The battles, sacrifices and hardships in Truong Bon of our army and people are the most beautiful crystallization of patriotism, of the will to fight and win against foreign invaders; of courage, dignity, conscience and aspiration for peace; and are lessons about the wise and talented leadership of the people's war by the Party and the great President Ho Chi Minh.

Half a century has passed, the Truong Bon song still echoes, an immortal heroic song of the youth in the struggle for national liberation. Blood, sweat and tears mingled in the sacred land of Truong Bon, contributing to the victory of the struggle to liberate the South and unify the country.

With gratitude and remembrance for the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives at Truong Bon, this place was built into a National Historical Relic Site. A group of 14 Truong Bon youth volunteers belonging to Company 317, Team 65, the Youth Volunteers' Team to Fight America and Save the Country in Nghe An Province were awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the President in 2008.

From the land known as “bomb bag, fire pan” in the past, Truong Bon has now revived, full of vitality with the changes and development of the homeland and the country. The vestiges of a time of bombs and bullets have been nurtured in the ground.

On the old arterial road are now forests, schools, houses, and peaceful villages. Truong Bon has become a red address for educating the youth about patriotism, a spiritual and cultural address welcoming tens of thousands of compatriots and soldiers to come here to pay tribute and visit the souls of heroes and martyrs.

Inheriting and promoting the heroic Soviet tradition, the Party Committee, government and people of Nghe An are united, striving to overcome difficulties, working hard day and night, studying and training, determined to rise up, building the homeland to become increasingly rich, beautiful and civilized, becoming a well-off province in the North as President Ho Chi Minh always wished. Nghe An province is gradually exploiting its enormous potentials and advantages, developing steadily, bringing prosperity and happiness to the people.

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the heroic sacrifice of 13 heroes of Squad 2 - "Steel Squad" of Company 317, Nghe An Youth Volunteers; reviewing the glorious tradition of "Truong Bon Fire Coordinates", of Nghe An homeland during the years of fighting against American invasion, we respectfully remember and forever be grateful to the great President Ho Chi Minh and other cultural celebrities, heroic martyrs.

We remember the contributions of revolutionary predecessors, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Armed Forces Heroes, wounded and sick soldiers, families of martyrs, families with meritorious services to the country, veterans, former youth volunteers, frontline workers, and compatriots and soldiers nationwide who fought bravely, sacrificed, and contributed blood, brains, talents, efforts, and wealth to the great resistance war against the US to save the country, creating glorious victories today and tomorrow.

The cadres, party members and people of Nghe An province pledge to preserve and protect the achievements created by previous generations; remain loyal to the ideals of national independence and socialism; continue to promote the cause of national renewal, industrialization, modernization and international integration.

Upholding responsibility, strengthening solidarity within the Party and consensus among the people, determined to strive to successfully implement the goals and tasks set forth in Resolution 26 of the Politburo and Resolution of the 18th Provincial Party Congress, building Nghe An by 2020 to become the economic center of the North Central region and a province in the Northern region.

On this occasion, on behalf of the cadres, party members and people of Nghe An province, I would like to sincerely thank the great and effective affection and attention of the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the central ministries, branches, unions, localities, international organizations and people nationwide for Nghe An during the past time.

I would like to sincerely thank Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other leaders who, despite being very busy with work, have arranged time to attend today's ceremony, demonstrating the deep concern of the Party and State for the activity of "repaying gratitude".
