(Baonghean.vn) - Thai Hoa Town Police said they have just prosecuted and detained Nguyen Thanh Hoang (born in 1974, residing in Dong Hai hamlet, Dong Hieu commune, Thai Hoa Town) for theft of property.

On April 18, Thai Hoa Town Police received a report that Ms. Duong Thi Nhung's house (born in 1974) in Dong Hai hamlet, Dong Hieu commune, Thai Hoa town had been broken into by thieves who broke the safe and stole a number of valuable assets, mainly cash and gold.

According to Ms. Nhung, on the afternoon of April 17, she and her children went to play volleyball about 1 km from home. When they returned home at around 6 pm, they discovered that the safe in the bedroom had been broken into, 8 taels of gold, 2 silver necklaces and nearly 30 million VND had disappeared. This was the family's property from compensation for land clearance, and Ms. Nhung and her husband had just taken it out to buy gold and stored it for more than a week.

Considering the recklessness of the subject, Thai Hoa Town Police established Project 0417T to investigate and arrest the subject. It was determined that the intruder into Ms. Nhung's house was most likely from the same commune, addicted to drugs or gambling, so dozens of subjects under management were put on the list for consideration and monitoring by the Project Board.

Through screening, the detectives found that Nguyen Thanh Hoang (born in 1994), residing in Dong Quang hamlet, the same commune as Ms. Nhung, had many suspicious signs. Hoang was not only addicted to drugs but also addicted to gambling. Although he had a wife and 2 children, Hoang spent all day following a group of "thieves" in and out of the commune, ready to steal property if the homeowner was careless.

With the collected documents and evidence, the Thai Hoa City Police Department planned to urgently arrest Nguyen Thanh Hoang. However, when the police arrived at his house, Hoang had already fled. The detectives received the report and Hoang took all his money and gold to Tan Ky District to prepare to escape to the South. That same night, the Thai Hoa City Police deployed professional measures to arrest Nguyen Thanh Hoang.

The police discovered Hoang standing in front of a gas station next to Ho Chi Minh Road, about 2 km from Tan Ky town center, preparing to catch a bus to escape to the South. Taking advantage of Hoang's lack of vigilance, the detectives rushed in to arrest him. Although he was knocked down, Hoang was like a cornered animal, fiercely fighting back. However, with timely support, the police successfully subdued Hoang.

When checking Hoang, the police seized all the money and gold that were evidence of the theft. That same night, Hoang was taken to Thai Hoa City Police Station for questioning. At the police station, Hoang denied his crime, pretending to be addicted. Only when the investigators presented strong evidence did Hoang bow his head and admit his crime.

Hoang confessed that he accidentally discovered Ms. Nhung going to the center of Thai Hoa town to buy gold, so he thought of a way to steal it. On the afternoon of April 17, knowing that Ms. Nhung had locked the door to play volleyball, Hoang grabbed a machete, broke into the house, broke the lock, and used a hammer to break the safe. Before taking action, Hoang used a blanket to put under the safe to reduce the noise. After stealing all the assets in the safe, including 8 taels of gold, 2 silver necklaces, and nearly 30 million VND in cash, he quickly fled the scene.
