Retired soldier runs a comprehensive farm earning over 1 billion VND per year

(Baonghean.vn) - After being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown, with his hard-working and diligent nature, veteran Tran Cong Son in Thanh My, Thanh Chuong (Nghe An) built a comprehensive farm, bringing in an income of over 1 billion VND per year on a total land area of ​​2.5 hectares.

Having worked at the Political Department of Military Region 4, and then transferred to Division 324, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cong Son had the chance to do farm economics after learning about the models. Initially, he built a nursery garden at home and invested in raising chickens and other livestock such as wild ducks, soft-shell turtles, etc.

To raise chickens successfully, Mr. Son and his wife chose native chicken breeds such as ri, gac... with beautiful colors, designed a system for raising egg-laying chickens, built an incubator, hired veterinary staff to strictly implement the chicken brooding process. After the brooding process and vaccination steps when the chickens were resistant enough, he let them roam in the perennial garden, feeding them with self-mixed food and agricultural by-products.

Mr. Son's family has over 1,000 breeding chickens.

Earning high profits from raising chickens, Mr. Son rented an additional 1.5 hectares of land about 500 meters from his house to open another farm. This farm is located in the middle of a large field, with a strong net, the chickens are allowed to roam freely in the corn and sesame garden, both to kill insects, eat grass, and produce delicious meat. Here, he also dug a pond and raised about 3,000 wild ducks.

Along with that, he raises wild boars, soft-shell turtles, fish... In recent years, each year, his farm supplies about 8 tons of chicken meat, 100,000 chickens, 4,000 ducks, 150 wild boars for breeding, wild boars for meat, 500 kg of soft-shell turtles, with a total revenue of about 1 billion VND.

At the time when Mr. Son was most successful in raising chickens, Thanh Chuong district built a science and technology project "Building, managing and developing the collective brand of Thanh Chuong hill chickens", and built a project "Developing some livestock associated with building brands and consuming products in the period 2016-2020".

Therefore, his model became a place for people and officials to come and learn, and an important source of seeds for many other facilities.

Besides raising livestock, Mr. Son also grows many kinds of fruit trees.

At the recently held congress to establish the "Thanh Chuong District Chicken Breeders Association", Mr. Tran Cong Son was elected to the Executive Committee in charge of technical matters. He said: "Anyone who raises chickens needs to master the techniques. Therefore, the Association of Chicken Breeders is a place for members to exchange experiences, get the closest access to science and technology and support each other to develop together".
