WHO warns about Covid-19

According to World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Covid-19 infection situation has not shown any signs of abating because of complacency and the failure to implement anti-epidemic measures consistently and synchronously.

Mr. Ghebreyesu emphasized that all countries want to open up their societies, open their economies, restore travel and trade activities, but now is not the right time to fully open up because the number of deaths from the new coronavirus in many countries is still increasing, while the health system is overloaded under pressure from new infections.

"The Covid-19 pandemic is far from over. However, we have many reasons to be optimistic. The decline in cases and deaths in the first two months of this year shows that the SARS-CoV-2 virus and its new variants can be completely contained," said Mr. Ghebreyesus.

North Korea remains immune to Covid-19

The Kim Jong-un administration announced that no new coronavirus cases have been detected after testing tens of thousands of people in recent times.

North Korea remains free of the Covid-19 pandemic after testing more than 700 people in a week, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported. The country tested 732 people from March 26 to April 1 and no one tested positive for the coronavirus.

As of April 1, North Korea had tested a total of 23,121 people for Covid-19.

Austrian Health Minister Resigns Due to Covid-19

Mr. Rudolf Anschober announced his resignation as Austrian Health Minister because his work in managing the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic over the past year has caused his health to decline.

"I have decided to resign. I am overworked and exhausted," Anschober, 60, said at a press conference in Vienna. He added that he suffers from high blood pressure.

The official described his 15 months in charge of the Covid-19 fight as 15 years, not to mention he also faced many death threats because of the government's restrictive measures to prevent the epidemic.

Minister Anschober warned that Austria should not underestimate the pandemic and that the current situation remains very challenging.
