- COVID-19 vaccine still effective against Omicron variant
- The number of COVID-19 cases in our country has increased in the past 2 weeks. There have been days when the number of new cases exceeded 2,000 cases/day. In the face of increasing cases, the number of COVID-19 patients on oxygen has also increased, and there have been recorded deaths after nearly 4 months, the Ministry of Health continues to recommend promoting COVID-19 vaccination, focusing on prioritizing the protection of high-risk groups (the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions, people with immunodeficiency and pregnant women) who are at risk of severe complications and death when infected with COVID-19.
- Talking to reportersHealth & Life, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu - former Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health, during the upcoming holidays, travel demand will increase, so people need to take disease prevention measures such as wearing masks, disinfecting and keeping distance in risky areas to avoid increasing the number of cases.
People with suspected symptoms and those in contact with people with suspected symptoms must wear masks. Everyone needs to wear masks to protect themselves and the community, especially vulnerable groups as mentioned above. This not only helps prevent COVID-19 but also other respiratory infections such as influenza A and influenza B.
"Anyone with symptoms should be tested for COVID-19 and finally need to follow the Ministry of Health's vaccination schedule."- Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Dac Phu recommends.
Dr. Ngu Duy Nghia - Head of the Department of Infectious Disease Control (Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology) emphasized: the implementation of measures to prevent COVID-19 infection should be done regularly and continuously, especially during the upcoming long holiday. Those who have not received enough doses of vaccine as recommended by the Ministry of Health should urgently get enough doses to best prevent the disease.
"With the Omicron variant, the COVID-19 vaccine is still effective. To prevent COVID-19 infection, in addition to getting all the recommended doses of vaccine, people should take preventive measures such as masks and disinfection," said Dr. Ngu Duy Nghia.
Regarding COVID-19 vaccination, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has just issued a plan to vaccinate against COVID-19 during the upcoming April 29 - May 3 holiday for city residents aged 18 and over with 59 vaccination points in 22 districts and Thu Duc City.
The leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that complying with and effectively implementing the "Campaign to protect people in risk groups" recently issued by the City People's Committee will be decisive in disease prevention. In particular, fully vaccinating with COVID-19 vaccines and complying with the recommendations of the Ministry of Health are always the best measures to help protect yourself, your family and the community from the COVID-19 epidemic.
