Colleges change admission methods
Many colleges, after losing momentum in the 2015 enrollment season because they could not adapt to changes in enrollment methods, have begun to make changes to compete fairly with universities in attracting candidates.
Enterprises accompany with recruitment
Associate Professor Dr. Phan Cao Tho - Principal of the College of Technology (University of Danang) - commented: "With the adjustments towards increasing the initiative in enrollment and training of colleges and universities, even if it is a prestigious training institution, we cannot leisurely wait for candidates to learn and apply to the school."
Kicking off the 2016 enrollment season, the College of Technology has signed cooperation agreements with 8 businesses and the school in career counseling.

In addition to supporting schools in printing admission books, businesses also provide additional information about the labor market. “The fact that businesses accompany schools in admission is also a commitment to employment and training quality for learners. These are all corporations and businesses that have signed cooperation agreements with schools in practical training and receiving graduates.
The school also enhances internships and business training with the Business Semester program so that students can have early and regular access to the real production and business environment.
The remaining issue is whether the output quality of students meets the requirements of employers or not, and this depends largely on the process of accumulating knowledge and skills of the students themselves" - Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Cao Tho emphasized.
Mr. Le Ngoc Viet - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phuong Dong College (Da Nang) - said: "It cannot be effective if colleges continue to approach candidates as before. Employment after graduation is almost the number one priority of both parents and candidates. Therefore, colleges must have something different from universities to attract candidates. And we are interested in connecting with businesses to solve the problem of output for students".
In the 2016 enrollment season, Phuong Dong College will enroll students in the Automotive Engineering major in collaboration with Truong Hai Automobile Company.
In addition, as part of the project of Selection, cooperation and additional professional training for young Vietnamese human resources to become nurses and patient care workers between the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy of Germany and the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam, the school also signed a cooperation agreement on German language training with the Goethe Institute Vietnam in training German for nursing students who are qualified to export labor to Germany.
In-depth consulting
Having worked in admissions for many years, Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh - Deputy Head of Training Department of College of Technology - commented: "There are majors with high job opportunities and recruitment needs but few candidates register to study.
Part of the reason is that candidates have not been advised on careers, they only hear the names but do not actually understand the careers and social needs, for example, Thermal Engineering Technology, Chemical Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology, Biotechnology, Electronics and Communications Engineering Technology, Management Information Systems.

However, there are also majors that attract many candidates because their names create confusion: for example, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology. Candidates mistakenly think that this major is both about electricity and electronics, so many apply to this major instead of applying to the Electrical and Communication Engineering Technology major.
Therefore, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, in-depth career counseling needs to be further promoted in both high schools and colleges.
Therefore, in addition to participating in admissions consulting with other units and media agencies, colleges such as Danang Vocational College, College of Commerce, Phuong Dong College, College of Technology, etc. all organize in-depth consulting programs in many forms such as online consulting, direct consulting through small groups at high schools to both introduce the school and answer students' questions about points to note in the admissions regulations.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tu - Head of Training Department of the College of Commerce said: "To prepare for the 2016 enrollment season, in addition to the previous Admissions Advisory Board, the College of Commerce has established a Promotion Board with the participation of 100 volunteer students. We believe that nothing is more effective than letting students studying at the school introduce their school to students who are preparing to enter college or university. Perhaps that is why our school has families with 3 generations of former students of the school."
In addition to coordinating with local Departments of Education and Training to provide consultation, the College of Commerce has also established in-depth consultation groups on majors, job positions after graduation, and the school's support services during the student's study process. "Through in-depth consultation, the school is also committed to quality with students," Mr. Tu emphasized.

Preferential policies for candidates entering the school
Not only marketing their image, schools also introduce special priorities for incoming new students. Very special policies on scholarships, tuition fees, and accommodation are always a concern for candidates before entering college or university.
In addition to the school's scholarship fund with a support level of 15 million VND/semester for a full scholarship and special preferential policies such as free dormitory fees, the College of Technology also has scholarships provided by businesses. In addition, IT students also have the opportunity to receive scholarships for the entire course including living expenses and costs of participating in extracurricular activities supported by the PN (Passerelles Numeriques) organization.
The College of Commerce spends 1.5 billion VND each year to provide scholarships to students, not to mention about 500 million VND/year from support from businesses.
And in the race to reach candidates, universities, colleges, and vocational schools are constantly offering preferential policies to attract potential future majors, as well as "hot" majors...
The fact that public schools are also jumping in to promote their image makes non-public schools have to assert themselves not only through image marketing as before, but also have to ensure the quality of training, in order to be able to stand firm in this fierce competition. The beneficiaries are none other than the candidates...
