(Baonghean.vn) - About 10km from the center of Nghia Dan district, after many inquiries, we found the house of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy in hamlet 12, Nghia Trung commune to visit Nguyen Tuan Anh (born 2009) whose kidney failure was life-threatening.

In a level 4 house with no valuables, Ms. Thuy alone struggled to take care of 3 small children, both weak and sick. Wiping away tears, Ms. Thuy confided: Tuan Anh is her first child, after Tuan Anh there are 2 younger children. When he was 3 months old, they discovered that Tuan Anh's skin on his legs and arms was wrinkled and his body was not developing, so his family took him to Hanoi for a check-up, where doctors diagnosed him with congenital chronic kidney failure.

Currently, Tuan Anh has atrophied two kidneys, damaged renal tubules, losing the ability to filter blood, excrete toxins from the body, leading to poisoning of the brain, heart, etc. According to the doctor, Tuan Anh's illness has entered the final stage, requiring a kidney transplant to save his life.

More heartbreakingly, after only a short time of discovering Tuan Anh's illness, the father abandoned the mother and her four children to be with another woman. Her husband left, leaving her to raise three young children alone. Thuy herself suffered from anemia and was often sick, making life very difficult and deprived for the mother and her four children.

Ms. Thuy choked up: After 9 years of treating her child, the doctors now concluded that with her weight, she is not eligible for dialysis, the only way left is a kidney transplant, but since starting to treat her child, the amount of money borrowed from banks, relatives, and neighbors has reached more than 100 million VND, valuable items in the house have also been sold, she cannot find more than 500 million VND to replace her child's kidney. Every day, seeing her child writhing in pain, struggling with no money for medicine, she can only hold her child in her arms.

Although he was only 9 years old and sick in bed, when we sat close, he pulled me close to his ear and whispered: “Mom said she would sell the house, but selling the house wouldn’t be enough money to save me. And after selling the house, where would mom and the siblings live…” Having said that, Tuan Anh lay face down as if he didn’t want to think about it anymore.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Han - President of the Women's Union of Nghia Trung commune said: The life of Ms. Thuy and her four children is very difficult at present. Currently, there is no money for treatment, so she brought her children home. As the days go by, the life of her 9-year-old son is four walls, blood, necklaces, and needles. Tuan Anh has been sick since he was young, so his studies have had to be put on hold. There are two young children, one is in kindergarten and the other has to stay at home. In the face of Ms. Thuy's family situation, the local government and organizations have visited, given gifts, and helped with working days to encourage her and her children, but it is not enough.

Saying goodbye to Nguyen Thi Thuy and her child, we saw her hands still tightly holding her child's hand with tears in the corners of her eyes... She felt sorry for her child, and sorry for herself because she didn't know where she would find the money to treat her child.

Thuy's family really needs the community's support to give Tuan Anh more hope in fighting his illness.
