(Baonghean.vn) - Con Cuong Ethnic Minority Boarding School is considered a model school of the district. However, for many years now, the school has not been able to meet its enrollment quota. The main reason is inadequate facilities. This is also the only boarding school in the entire province that does not have a school despite being established 10 years ago.

Con Cuong Ethnic Boarding Secondary School was established on August 26, 2013, for outstanding ethnic minority students in the district. In the past 10 years, the school has moved twice, but both times it was borrowed. When it was first established, because the school had not invested in building facilities, it had to borrow the old facility of Bong Khe Secondary School in Thanh Nam village, because this school merged into Con Cuong Town Secondary School. After the "flood on flood" in 2018, the school was deeply flooded. To ensure safety, the school was moved to town and temporarily borrowed the facility of Nghe An Ethnic Boarding Secondary School. In the past 5 years, the school's activities have been limited to 12 classrooms and a small yard in front. Of which, part of the yard area is used by the vocational school to organize driving test classes. Photo: My Ha

Lacking playgrounds, all collective activities of the school are almost frozen. This greatly affects the activities of teachers and students, especially when the school is currently implementing the 2018 General Education Program. Photo: Tien Hung

Previously, the boarding school model was considered a place to gather the most excellent ethnic minority students in the area. Students at the school enjoy many preferential policies and are directly admitted to high schools in the area. However, although for many years, Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students has been the top quality school in the district, there is a paradox that the enrollment quota is not enough or many students request to transfer after a short time of enrolling. Sharing about this, teacher Lo Van Thiep - Principal of the school added: This school year, our school has a quota of 105 students but can only enroll 96 students. The reason is that the school has enough classrooms to ensure 3 classes but does not have accommodation for the boarding students. Photo: Tien Hung

The school can only borrow 12 classrooms at the moment, so they are mainly given priority to students. The remaining two rooms, one is a shared office for the school board, accountant, and treasurer, and the other is used as a waiting room. Photo: My Ha

To have enough offices, the school had to make use of the small space next to the stairs. This place became a workplace, a place to store teaching materials, laboratory equipment and even a medical room. Ms. Tran Thi Anh Nguyet - a medical staff of the school said: The lack of facilities greatly affected the working process. As with the medical staff, in the past, because there were no rooms, every time a student had an accident, we had to take a car to the dormitory, which was time-consuming and dangerous to their health. The bed at the foot of the stairs was originally used for the medical room. However, due to the lack of professional space, teachers often come down here during free periods to review their lessons. Teacher Huong Giang (in blue shirt) - a Natural Science teacher also said: Currently, our subject has many practical lessons, but we do not have the conditions to do them because we do not have a practice room, chemicals, or test tubes. Instead, we let students watch simulation videos on the computer, but obviously, compared to students having access to reality, just watching simulations will be ineffective. Photo: Tien Hung

In addition to borrowing facilities from the vocational school, more than 300 boarding students of the school are staying at the district's Continuing Education - Vocational Education Center. This location is about half a kilometer from the school, making travel difficult. In addition, this is also the place where students study practical lessons such as IT, English and some specialized rooms of the school. Photo: My Ha

After 10 years of operation, the yard was used as a dining area, evening study area and living area in front of the Continuing Education - Vocational Education Center, the only place with a sign of Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities. However, the entire campus has now been seriously degraded due to being in use for more than 30 years. The living conditions of students and teachers here are therefore very difficult. The kitchen area for more than 300 boarding students is too makeshift, inadequate, and does not meet the one-way kitchen process and conditions for a collective kitchen. Photo: My Ha

The dormitory for male students has deteriorated. During the hot season, to avoid the heat for students, the school has to spray water regularly on the metal roof. The school also has to create conditions for students to take a shower at noon or let them leave early for summer if the weather is too harsh. Photo: Tien Hung

Despite efforts to organize and create discipline for students, with a small area, each room can only accommodate 25-30 students, the living and accommodation of boarding school students is extremely difficult. Photo: Tien Hung

The dormitory area for female students is even more pitiful because it is all temporary rooms with corrugated iron walls. In an area of about 30 square meters, there are up to 45 female students living together. Photo: Tien Hung

With the current infrastructure conditions, the greatest wish of the teachers and students of Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities is to soon have their own school. Previously, in 2016, the Provincial People's Committee approved the Investment Project to build Con Cuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities. The project has a total investment of 45 billion VND, with full items such as classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, gymnasiums, administrative offices, etc. The construction site is in Tra Bong village, Bong Khe commune. The project was assigned to the Con Cuong District Project Management Board for implementation, with a time limit of 3 years from the commencement date. However, up to now, this area is still just an empty lot. Photo: My Ha
