Mr. La Van Duong's family in Dong Tien village, Lang Khe commune has more than 6 hectares of hilly land that he used to grow acacia, but due to low efficiency, he switched to growing medlar and has been harvesting for 2 years now. He said that Medlar is an easy-to-grow tree, requires little care, and when it comes to harvest, he only has to prune the trees that are old enough, so he can harvest every year.

With the current market price of the meter, traders come to buy on the spot for large and beautiful trees from 13-15 thousand VND, small trees from 10-12 thousand VND. Since the beginning of the year, his family has harvested twice, earning nearly 100 million VND. Thanks to the meter tree, his family has not only escaped poverty but also has food and property to become rich right in their hometown.
Lang Khe is one of the localities with the largest area of meters planted in the whole district with a total area of meters currently nearly 300 hectares. The whole commune has 7 villages, all 7 villages have an area of meters planted, households grow small 5-7 sao, households grow large from tens to hundreds of hectares. Annual revenue from meter trees, contributing to the commune budget accounts for over 30%.
Currently, Lang Khe commune is reclaiming and expanding the area for growing meters in fallow lands and lands previously planted with ineffective crops to convert to growing meters.

It can be said that, thanks to the active leadership of the Party Committee and the government combined with the efforts of the local people, the work of hunger eradication and poverty reduction in Lang Khe is a bright spot of the locality. The planting and development of the area of rice combined with other industries has helped people escape poverty, many households have high incomes.
The poverty rate of Lang Khe has been decreasing every year. In 2014, the whole commune had 47% poor households, but in 2015, it decreased to only 43%. All socio-economic targets have been achieved and exceeded the set plan.
