On the afternoon of May 22, Tan Ky District People's Court tried a criminal case against Cao Xuan An, born in 1969, residing in Hamlet 4, Linh Son Commune, Anh Son District, for theft of property.

According to the indictment, after preparing a flashlight, snake skin, and rubber bands, at about 2:00 a.m. on March 25, 2020, An drove a Honda Wave Alpha motorbike with license plate 37B1-137.47 from his home to Tan Ky district, Nghe An province to steal chickens.

On the way, An covered the exhaust pipe of the motorbike to reduce the noise and used a piece of cloth to cover the license plate to avoid detection by people. Then An drove the motorbike to Phuong Ky hamlet, Ky Son commune, Tan Ky district and discovered the sound of a rooster crowing at Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong's family. An parked the motorbike outside the road, broke into Ms. Huong's chicken coop, used a flashlight to shine and stole 07 chickens, put them in snake skin bags, took them out to get on the motorbike and continued to steal chickens.

After driving a while, An discovered a rooster crowing at Nguyen Dinh Son's family, so An stopped his car outside the fence and broke into Son's chicken coop, opened the protective net outside, and used a flashlight to steal the chicken.

At that time, Mr. Son was sleeping in the house and heard a noise from the chicken bell, so Mr. Son went downstairs to get a knife and went to the chicken coop area. He discovered An was using a flashlight to steal chickens, but Mr. Son restrained him. At the same time, he called for everyone around to help arrest An, along with the motorbike and 7 chickens that had been stolen from Ms. Huong's house, and handed them over to the Ky Son Commune Police Department and the Tan Ky District Police Investigation Agency for further investigation.

On March 25, 2020, the Investigation Agency of Tan Ky District Police established a Weighing Council to determine that the 7 chickens that An stole from Ms. Huong's family had a total weight of 13.5 kg and the 21 chickens that An had not yet stolen from Mr. Son's family had a total weight of 36.75 kg.

Asset valuation conclusion No. 12/UBND-HDDG dated March 27, 2020 of the Asset Valuation Council of Tan Ky district concluded: 07 live chickens that An stole from Ms. Huong's family are worth 1,350,000 VND; 21 live chickens that An had not yet stolen from Mr. Son's family are worth 3,675,000 VND.

During the investigation, the police recovered and returned to Ms. Huong the 7 chickens that An had stolen. During the theft, An did not cause any property damage, so the victims did not request An to pay civil compensation.

At the Investigation Agency, Cao Xuan An confessed to all of his crimes in accordance with the documents and evidence collected in the case file. Based on the above details and evidence, the Panel of Judges sentenced Cao Xuan An to 3 months in prison.

Previously, An was fined 1.5 million VND by Anh Son District Police and sentenced to 9 years in prison for theft.
