The Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the Association for the 2018-2023 term.

Attending the event were General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong and delegates representing central and local departments, agencies.

Also attending the congress were 999 official delegates representing more than 10 million members and farmers nationwide.

The Congress is tasked with assessing the implementation results of the Resolution of the 6th National Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, term 2013-2018; setting out directions, goals, tasks and solutions for the work of the Union and the farmers' movement for the term 2018-2023; approving the Charter of the Vietnam Farmers' Union (amended); electing the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, term VII, term 2018-2023.

Presenting the political report at the Congress, Mr. Thao Xuan Sung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Delegation, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union affirmed: Over the past 5 years, the Union has effectively promoted its central and core role, the peasant class has actively performed its main role, contributing to promoting agriculture, farmers, and rural areas to continue to develop towards industrialization and modernization; promoting the Farmers' Movement to compete in production, good business, solidarity to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably. Effectively organizing consulting, support, service, vocational training activities for farmers, developing forms of cooperative economy, cooperatives in agriculture to achieve increasing productivity and quality

In addition to the outstanding results achieved, the work of the Association and the farmers' movement still has limitations and weaknesses that need attention, such as: some places have not grasped the thoughts, aspirations and difficulties of farmers in a timely manner; the rate of members participating in activities is still low, the work of managing members is not strict; some places have not performed well the function of representing and protecting the legitimate and legal rights and interests of farmers; participation in building and criticizing mechanisms, policies and laws related to agriculture, farmers and rural areas is still limited...

From those achievements and limitations, the report pointed out lessons learned and proposed directions, goals, tasks, and solutions for the Association and the farmers' movement in the 2018-2023 term. It emphasized the direction of building a clean and strong Association, promoting the role of the Association and the farmer class in developing prosperous agriculture, wealthy farmers, and civilized and modern countryside.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong asked Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations to create more favorable conditions for the Vietnam Farmers' Union at all levels to operate effectively.

In his speech at the Congress, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong acknowledged and highly appreciated the innovations in the content and methods of operation of the Association, thanks to which the work of the Association and the farmers' movement have achieved many important results. The Association has performed well its role as "the center and core of the farmers' movement and the new rural construction", contributing to the strong development of our country's agriculture and rural areas.

To meet the requirements of the tasks in the new context of sustainable and modern development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas in our country, the General Secretary and President requested that Farmers' Associations at all levels continue to innovate the content and methods of operation, do better in propaganda, mobilization and solidarity work to truly become a revolutionary force, a great and powerful economic, political and social force of the Party and State.

The Association needs to actively build and strengthen its organization to meet the requirements of mobilizing farmers in the new situation, to be a reliable bridge between the Party, the State and the peasant class; to perform well the role of representing the legitimate rights and interests of farmers; to be capable of advising and proposing policies for the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas.

The General Secretary and President requested that Party committees, Party organizations, authorities, the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations at all levels need to thoroughly grasp, raise awareness and responsibility, focus resources on agricultural development, rural construction, improve farmers' lives, and create more favorable conditions for the Vietnam Farmers' Union at all levels to operate effectively.

During the working session on the afternoon of December 12, the Congress voted to elect 119 members of the Executive Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, term VII, 2018-2023. Previously, on December 11, the Congress conducted its first working day by electing the Presidium; Secretariat; Delegate Qualification Examination Board; and approving a number of programs and regulations of the Congress. The Congress continued to work until the afternoon of December 13, discussing and voting to approve many important contents.

Attending the 7th Congress of the Vietnam Farmers' Union, the Nghe An delegation had 27 delegates representing 521,918 members in the province. At the Congress, the delegation discussed and contributed many ideas to the contents of the Congress and had a speech on the Role of the Farmers' Union in the movement of the whole people to protect national security.
