Expert Nguyen Thanh Vinh: 'Quang Hai deserves to be captain'

(Baonghean.vn) - Midfielder Quang Hai has been assigned by coach Park Hang-seo to take on the role of captain of U23 Vietnam in the 2020 U23 Asia qualifiers.

Mr. Park's decision has made many experts and fans feel quite surprised. Although he is the most talented and experienced player in U23 Vietnam at present, but according to the assessment of a part of public opinion, Quang Hai is not the type of player who shows outstanding leadership qualities like Que Ngoc Hai or Luong Xuan Truong.

However, former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh said: “In many aspects, no one in U23 Vietnam at this time is more worthy than Quang Hai to hold the captain role. There is no need to argue, Quang Hai is the most talented and experienced player that coach Park Hang-seo has. In addition, Quang Hai is also a player with good moral character. Therefore, Quang Hai is very respected and loved by his teammates.”

That will help the relationship between the coaching staff and the players, and between the players themselves, to be better. Even with his reputation, Quang Hai will help our team receive more sympathy from the referee team. Whatever is said, referees still have more sympathy for players who are both good at their skills and have good manners.

Nowadays, football teams often choose players with good skills and moral character to be captains. Leaders are no longer the ones who are rough, ready to fight with the opposing team's players and argue with the referee in situations where the team is at a disadvantage. The case of Messi as captain of the Argentina team is a typical example. Obviously, Mr. Park choosing Quang Hai as captain of the U23 Vietnam team is completely reasonable. Objectively speaking, Coach Park Hang-seo is the one who understands his students better than anyone else.

Thus, Quang Hai is the 4th captain under coach Park Hang-seo, after Luong Xuan Truong, Nguyen Van Quyet and Que Ngoc Hai.
