The arduous path to becoming a military doctor of the top student of block A at Uncle Ho's hometown school

It is not difficult to find the address to visit the house of student Dau Chi Thanh, class 12C1, Nam Dan 1 High School.

Although located deep in hamlet 9B, Nam Thanh commune, a winding road, more than 10 km from the center of Nam Dan district town, Thanh was already "famous" in the commune because both Thanh and her sister were well-behaved and good at studying. The small, dilapidated house was empty, filled with only books and notebooks.

Thanh's parents, Dau Van Vinh and Nguyen Thi Hong, left their homeland to settle in the South in the 1990s.

With their hard-working, diligent and industrious nature, his parents were able to build a house and fields, but because Thanh's mother fell ill and was often sick, they had to sell all their property to pay for treatment and medicine.

Due to the hardship, in 2014, the whole family had to return to their hometown to live with relatives. Unable to bear to leave his brother's family, Thanh's father's younger brother let his family live in the small house next door. Thanh's uncle also let his parents work together on the fields and garden with an area of ​​over 3 sao of land. His mother was sick, suffering from a herniated disc, so she could only help with light work, and the family's economy depended on the few sao of fields and garden of his uncle's family.

Not only is Thanh (second row from the right) enthusiastic and friendly with his friends, he is also a great artist in class activities.

With the ability to self-study, especially looking at the achievements and efforts of his sister, Dau Thi Thu Ha, who is currently studying at Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Thanh has always reminded himself to try to study really well so that his parents will have less suffering and hardship in the future. Not only is he good at studying and obedient, Thanh is also considered a "hard" artist in class, always sociable and actively participates in class and school activities.

And miracles

Thanh’s family had no audiovisual equipment except for a very old television. But since entering high school, with the determination to achieve high results in studying and not wasting time, he personally removed the antenna. Outside of school hours, Thanh often helped his parents with herding cows, farming, and taking care of and harvesting vegetables in the garden.

Despite the difficulties and hardships, Thanh's academic results are always the motivation for his parents to work hard to raise the two children.

By using a general approach, each lesson must grasp the core essence, from theory to solving practical exercises and drawing experience in doing each type of exercise. A small notebook to write down tips for solving difficult types of exercises is the most effective way to learn according to Thanh.

Thanks to that, in grade 11, Thanh won 2nd prize in Physics and 3rd prize in Chemistry in the Provincial Excellent Student Competition.

Thanh set a target of 27 points for block A in the National exam but only got 26.75 points. However, to achieve this result, Thanh was not only an effort from Thanh but also from the dedicated guidance and instruction of teachers in each subject, especially the homeroom teacher Dinh Anh Tuan.

“Thanks to the assignment of targets for each subject, each topic by week, by month and being tested regularly, mastering knowledge is mandatory for each student. Depending on each student's ability, the teacher will assign appropriate targets, so from theory to exercises, I and my classmates all try to complete the teacher's requirements within a certain time. With Physics, the homeroom teacher teaches directly, so he urges each student. Being able to absorb and understand the lesson right in class, I save time to study advanced, ponder, and learn difficult exercises at home according to the outline the teacher has assigned.

Don't choose your favorite major

“Although it is difficult and hard, my husband and I are very happy to see our child studying as well as his friends. Thanh is also not healthy and is sick all the time because his family does not have the means to take care of him, so I feel very sorry for him. I just hope he is healthy enough to continue studying. If things get difficult, we will borrow student loans to take care of the two of us.”
