Daughter follows father to prison for drug conviction

On July 13, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Vi Thi Nga (born 1984), residing in Chau Thon commune, Que Phong district, for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics".drug".
The case file shows that around April 2006, a woman named Vi Thi Oanh (born 1962) came to rent a house from Nga’s father, Vi Van Nghiec (born 1960), to open a coffee shop. During this time, a man named Meo occasionally came to drink coffee, so he got to know Oanh, Nga, and Nghiec.
In October 2006, Meo asked Oanh and Nga to find a source to sell drugs for profit, and Meo would take care of the "goods". Both sides agreed. Since no one was going to get the drugs, Meo met Nghiec to hire him to get the drugs. Nghiec agreed to walk to the forest to get 35.8 grams of drugs, bring them home with his daughter and Oanh divided them into small pieces to sell to customers.

However, after a month, she still could not sell the "goods", so Oanh gave the drugs to Nghiec and told him to return them to Meo. Vi Van Nghiec took the drugs to return them, but when he saw the police patrolling, he turned back.
On November 7, 2006, a customer came to buy drugs. While Vi Thi Oanh was selling drugs to the customer, she was arrested by the police. After that, the investigation agency issued an arrest warrant.searchEmergency police raided the residence of Vi Van Nghiec and his son, confiscating 4.9 grams of drugs that Nghiec said he bought for his own use.
After learning that Oanh and her father were arrested and brought to trial, Vi Thi Nga fled to China to work and was wanted. On February 2, 2021, Vi Thi Nga was arrested by Mong Cai City Police (Quang Ninh Province) and wanted in the medical quarantine area.
At the trial, the defendant Nga cried and admitted to her crime. The female defendant said that she fled to China to work as a laborer because she was afraid until she was arrested. The defendant Nga asked for a lighter sentence so that she could return home soon to take care of her children.
Considering the case as a whole, the People's Court sentenced Vi Thi Nga to 11 years in prison for illegal drug trafficking.
