Thai authorities have imposed new restrictions on the capital Bangkok and several provinces in an effort to tackle the worsening Covid-19 outbreak.

According to the Royal Announcement issued on the evening of June 26, new measures to prevent the Covid-19 epidemic will be implemented for 30 days from June 28, applied in the capital Bangkok and 5 neighboring provinces: Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon and Nakhon Pathom.

The new restrictions include a ban on dine-in service, a ban on shopping malls closing by 9 p.m., and a ban on events such as celebrations and parties with more than 20 people in Bangkok and five surrounding provinces. Authorities have also closed construction sites in six areas and locked down 575 camps housing about 81,000 construction workers to control the spread of the disease.

Since May, Bangkok has seen 37 Covid-19 outbreaks in worker camps. Authorities will set up checkpoints in Bangkok and five provinces to restrict the movement of construction workers, and set up additional Covid-19 checkpoints in four southernmost provinces./.
